I really like the Misawa-Hansen series and the first one is the best IMO. Misawa steps out of his comfort zone and thrives as a brawler while also relentlessly working the arm. Hansen does a tremendous job selling and yet is still that wounded animal who can finish you off at any moment. That being said, I go with Colon-Ayala. One of the greatest face performances ever as Colon is gushing blood while refusing to quit despite being pummeled (sound familiar?). The outside brawling also has that chaotic "anything can happen" vibe that I love so much.

This is like the Duke vs South Dakota State first round matchup from the NCAA tournament. I'm a big fan of the Misawa vs Hansen feud in general. But this is maybe their 4th or 5th best singles match. Its good, maybe very good at times. The overall structure is very good. Misawa's arm work after his initial burst isn't particularly engaging (weak strikes + lay on the mat in an armbar variety arm work) and it takes up the vast majority of the match. Misawa's laser focus on the arm is great, but the work itself isn't up to par. Hansen looks terrific as usual though. His striking is world class and he sells really well for Misawa's weak offense. When they pick things up to go to the finish, Misawa looks much better. Good-very good match overall on the strength of Hansen's performance and a strong layout. But realistically, this match would struggle to make a Top 100 Stan Hansen matches list, let alone a Top 100 GME list.
Colon vs Ayala on the other hand is an outstanding match. The last time I watched all their matches there was at least one, maybe two matches I liked even more than this one, yet this remains a strong top 100 contender. It is a match built around figure 4 leglocks and attempted homicides. Great selling, striking, drama, and one of the most gruesome bladejobs ever. Probably the best Texas Death Match ever.
Colon vs Ayala wins this easily. Like 88-43.

I forgot to add a poll because I'm a dummy. Anyways, people have another 3 days to vote and tell which match is better before we move on to the next pairing.
Anyways, I went with Hansen/Misawa. Actually a match I hadn't seen before. Quite excellent stuff. I didn't think the armwork was boring at all, since Misawa was always doing something different, e.g. bending the arm over the ropes, kicking the shoulder etc. and Hansen was constantly fighting back in a variety of ways (yanking the chin, the hair, hitting chops and so on). Loved the chair stuff and Misawa taking a big bump to the floor. Misawas crossbody is a great example of a simple but believable comeback spot despite him having taken a beating. Great lariat teases as usual. Doesn't feel like a Top 100 match but a good milestone on Misawas journey to the top.
Ayala/Colon was gritty, but I surprisingly enough thought it needed a little more. I mean, it's hard to escalate further when both guys are pretty much gushing blood from the get-go. The legwork and Figure 4s should have been more important and I thought the match needed something like at least an attempted comeback from Colon to feel truely epic. Did love Ayala dropping the table on his throat, tough.

The poll is 1:1 right now, but since 2 people spoke heavily in favour of Colon/Ayala, the Puerto Rican match advances.
