Crusher Blackwell & Sheik Adnan Kaissey vs. Baron Von Raschke & Mad Dog Vachon (Taped Fist Match - AWA - 3/13/83) Before I got the DVDVR 80s AWA set, it was matches like this that made me sort of hesitant when looking at the match list. Just a bunch of dudes I had never had any interest in watching before mixed in with a bunch of surely “great” but likely boring and technical Bockwinkel matches wasn’t super appealing to me compared to like the NJPW or Memphis set. So of course I fell in love with AWA after one disc and this stands out as one of the most fun matches of all time. This is all punching, stomping, biting, choking, and bleeding. All time crowd sells this short. Off the charts heat ends with people (fans) literally running up and punching Blackwell & Sheik in the face on their way out. Wild scene. Top 10ish all time favorite match for me.

YES! This crowd was ready for Blackwell and Sheik to get their asses kicked and they got what they want for the first part of this match, just an awesome ass kicking that heels can’t find an answer for. The heels find a way to win and attack post match, only to be run off by Verne. And then the heels get at Verne which pissed the crowd off but popped me huge! Great post match scene with the crowd attacking Blackwell and Sheik, the faces laid out and Mean Gene calling for the paramedics. So much fun.

Watched this for the first time in a decade last night and it was still amazing. One of the simplest wrestling matches you can get, which makes sense considering two of the participants are near pensioners and another had settled into a semi-regular role as a manager by this point. Absurd crowd heat; like volcanic levels. Babyface shine segment is two broken down guys punching and biting the heels with the heels leaning into everything and getting bumped everywhere. Vachon grabs Kaissie by the head at one point and bites his ear, then walks over and spits a chunk of it at Blackwell. Loved the bit as well where Vachon was beating on Kaissie in the corner and you could see him looking sideways because he knew Blackwell would try and blindside him, then when Blackwell does come rushing in Vachon moves and Blackwell obliterates Kaissie in the corner. It will always infuriate me to lose a transition spot because of a tape jump but the heat segment on the Baron was obviously great. He bleeds and the heels kick his broken down carcass up and down the place. Hot tag is one of the hottest in recorded history and Von Raschke slapping the claw on Blackwell about blows the roof off the place. They'd teased throughout the match how much the babyfaces want to avoid getting clobbered by those ridiculously thick taped fists of Kaissie and Blackwell, narrowly avoiding or blocking being hit by them at previous points in the match, so when Kaissie wallops the Baron in the back of the head and Blackwell squashes him like a bug with the splash you know it's over. And of course the post-match is one of the craziest near-riot scenes in wrestling history, with the Sheiks having to be escorted to the locker room by actual police while fans surround them on all sides and swing punches. Okerlund grabbing the house mic and shouting "will someone get the paramedics up here!" adds another layer of insanity and I'm surprised nobody tried to legit stab one of them. The very best form of pro wrestling.
