Cap's Categories: Top Matches - Casas. This was close. For some reason when I started to write this up my brain switched Billy Robinson to Nick Bockwinkel and I was really confident it would go to Casas. Now I'm not so sure. The Baba, Inoki, Verne and Bock matches are all holy shit level great. I think Casas/Santo 9/97 is by far the best match either guy ever had, but it gets a lot closer after that. Versatility - Casas. This was not close. Billy is great at being Billy Robinson and working his match. Kinda like his era of Regal. Only Robinson was a featured performer and worked with people more equipped to work within his style so it was less jarring than seeing a Steven Regal match after an Evad Sullivan segment. Casas meanwhile is maybe the only guy in history who gives Terry Funk an honest run for GOAT in terms of versatility. Consistency - Casas by virtue of footage availability. Charisma/"It" Factor" - Casas is really on the short list of most charismatic wrestlers of the last 30 years. Promos - Abstain Elevating Others - Casas. I always got the impression that Robinson's matches with Jumbo were really important in Jumbo's career arc, but most of the rest of the time he's going up against Aces. Offense - Robinson. Robinson's backbreaker is one of my all time favorite moves. Casas is a good offensive wrestler but I'm not sure its one of the first 5 things I think of when I think of Casas being an all timer. Selling - Casas. Casas is one of the great sellers/defensive wrestlers ever. Selling probably isn't one of te first 5 things I think of when I think of Robinson being an all timer. Rewatch Valley - Casas by virtue of availability. Bonus Elliott's Question (Brody vs Nigel or best work associated with a crappy wrestler) - Draw. Another case where off the top of my head nothing is standing out. Casas - 7 Robinson - 1 Draw - 1 I think this would likely be a hell of a lot closer if we had anything near the amount of Robinson that we do Casas available on film. Apparently Robinson was only 54 when he retired in 1992. So he was 38 by the time of the Baba match....but he debuted at age 17 in 1955 so he was also a 21 year veteran by the time of the Baba match. Casas has been wrestling for over 40 years. Close to 30 years of which has been consistently available on film...also much of that time he was arguably top 10 in the world.

I think I am going to skip this one, though I really like both guys. The massive difference in footage available makes this just too tough for me to make any sort of judgement I feel proud of. I am not really quite as high on Casas as some others are, though I still think he is GREAT and Robinson is on the short list of guys I would pick to magically make all their footage available because I adore his work.
Maybe later I'll just take their top 5 matches each and look at those only. That would be the only way for me to make this one work in my brain.
