The best match in their trilogy. The Anderson's offence in this is absolutely fabulous. They started by focusing on Gibson's leg before Morton manages to get a tag in, at which point they try to stifle the hot tag as fast as possible. Arn Anderson then proceeded to throw Morton all over the cage, who took some maniacal bumps into the cage, and busting him open. After this, whenever Arn was tagged in he'd attack the wound of Morton, while Ole focused his attacks on the left arm of Morton. They built up the match so well that the only thing needed to make this truly special was a hot tag to Gibson, but unfortunately that never came. Instead, after Arn breaks up a pin attempt, Gibson decides he's had enough and jumps in to attack Arn and help Morton pick up the win and I will say at least that there was a certain catharsis to having The Andersons lose by the very same tactic that they had employed throughout the match. A really excellent tag match that has a strong chance of making my list.
EDIT: Did the wrong date. This is the Starrcade cage match.

I hadn’t seen this in some time but this held up better than some of the other tag matches from the period. There wasn’t much fancy but all four men played their roles to perfection. The timing of the hope spots and the work against Morton was all stellar. The ending is not perfect but still a lock for my list I think.

This felt like a genius deconstruction of the Southern tag formula. There is a energetic shine opening from RnR Express as you would expect and eventually Robert Gibson smashes his knee and sets forth the Andersons' control segment. They are vicious with the legwork, putting weight on it and twisting it up a bit. I love the touch of manipulating the injured leg specifically to prevent the hot tag. But eventually, it does come and you think Morton going guns blazin' will turn the match on his head but no. He gets maybe 10 seconds in there going nuts before getting brutally shut down, thrown into a cage, and busted open. Andersons go to town on Morton and this goes on for seemingly forever. I was shocked to see the match went only 20 minutes because this heat segment on Morton felt like 20 minutes alone. They are ravaging his body all over, working on the cut, some tight limbwork, just taking turns on him. And there are so many cutoffs from the hot tag. They milk it and milk it and it just never pays off. Morton has seemingly picture perfect setups with punch combos or higher risk moves to tease it but they catch him everytime. It is outright comical and I am hysterical deep into this match. This match has got to have the world record for most tag cutoffs ever in a match, I can't imagine anything else would come close. Gibson just never ever ends up tagging back in and the Rock n Roll Express, ironically enough, end up having to resort to nefarious means and play the ref retain. Of course, they end up getting assaulted after the match and run for their lives. They got readily bitched out all match and cheated to win. It all felt like a truly pyrrhic victory. It is a very bizarre match structurally. Ultimately, I think the complete subversion of what you would expect a match with these two teams to resemble makes this as riveting of a wrestling match as you can possibly get. Especially compared to their July match which is also amazing but far different from this.
