A bit of a homer one for me. Two of my all time favorites and the dream match that never was in my book.

I was a big fan of Eddie when I was younger, but only recently have I really started to appreciate him as an all-timer. The workrate-heavy stuff of his days in NJPW, the brawls with JBL, and the 2005 bangers with Rey make for a top-notch resume.
Still, Bryan checks off pretty much every box for a GOAT contender. Eddie was definitely versatile but I feel like Bryan was THE most versatile. And as much as I love the Halloween Havoc and Judgment Day matches, I don't have either as high as Bryan's peaks.

I want to dedicate some actual time to thinking and writing about this tomorrow. I suspect when I do it'll be Bryan who wins out head to head in categories. But I'm not nearly as big a fan of Bryan as most are, had him lower than Eddie on my GWE ballot, and going with my gut I'd still have him lower if I reworked my list right now. A fair amount of the most highly-regarded Bryan Danielson/Daniel Bryan stuff doesn't connect with me the same as it does his biggest fans either.
I'll do this properly tomorrow.

My heart says Guerrero, but at this point Bryan's got an almost 20 year run of being one of the best guy's in the world. Eddy had that in 1997 and 03-05. And that's really it.
On peak alone I'd go Eddy. I don't think Bryan has ever been as good (so far) as Eddy's final 2 years. But Bryan probably takes the other 15 years.

Oh, ha! On the rough draft Greatest Wrestler Ever list I made that I referenced in the Hokuto vs Flair thread I also had Eddie (35) and Bryan (36) next to each other. Cap, did you hack my computer or something?

This beats Eddie vs. Hokuto as the most difficult comparison yet.
Eddie has Bryan beat on peaks and I value high end stuff the most. But Bryan isn't trailing by much. Same case for versatility.
Bryan holds the edge in other categories though, especially consistency, so I'll go with him for now.

I realized I never responded to this. I'll put this on my list to do soon too.

Consistency is the only area in which it isn't close imho. Today I might say Bryan, tomorrow Eddie...so I'll just call it a draw

Eddie is definitely an all-timer, but I personally think Bryan beats him in nearly every category. I could maybe give Eddie the edge in charisma and a draw in versatility. But offense, consistency, elevating opponents, and peaks I go Bryan.

Top MatchesPretty close. I think Eddie has the top match between the two, but Bryan has the next few and more real elite matches. Eddie’s top work is amazing and I think when he is at his best he is probably better than anyone. However, Bryan spends more putting out top tier work. Winner: Bryan VersatilityOh man… this is a really tough. I think both guys can do it all. They are really top notch, all around performers. I am going to call this one a tie. Winner: Tie ConsistencyThis one pretty easily goes to Bryan. Eddie’s ups and downs are well documented and very few wrestlers are as consistent as Bryan. Winner: Bryan PromosAnother razor thin one. Both are great promos. I am going to actually give this one to Eddie by a hair. Bryan is a really good and effective promos, but Eddie is able to bring next level emotion when he is at his best. This is – if nothing else – a place to give Eddie some credit for being – to me – the best peak performer. Winner: Guerrero Charisma/It FactorSo close… but I’m going with Eddie. He is one of the most magnetic wrestlers ever. Winner: Guerrero Elevating OthersBryan and this one isn’t really close to me. I think Bryan has few peers here. He makes everyone around him better. Winner: Bryan OffenseTough to say. Bryan has some diverse offense. Eddie is a bit sharper when it comes to the more dynamic offense. I think if we hadn’t lost Eddie he would have continued to evolve, and his offense would have also evolved. As is, I am going to call this a tie. Winner: Tie SellingBoth are great sellers. I am going to go with Eddie on this because I think he is a little better at selling to the moon. Its close… but Eddie. Winner: Guerrero Re-Watch ValuePretty easily Bryan for me. This is another one that I think Bryan beats almost everyone in. It is his combination of top matches and consistency. Winner: Bryan Elliott’s Broom Bearing Bonus QuestionEddie got a top 10 (for me) or top 50 (for the forum in 2020) match out of JBL, who is good… but not THAT good. Bryan has gotten memorable matches out of almost everyone he has worked with for a significant amount of time. I wrote about it a little more extensively over in the Bryan vs Kobashi thread so I won’t rehash it here. Another close one… but I’ll go Bryan Winner: Bryan (.5)
Final Score Bryan - 4.5 Guerrero - 3 Tie - 2
Sort of what I expected. Two of my favorites of all time. Bryan edges it out.
