Do you mean timeline wise or within those two categories?
If you mean timeline wise, there is the like 10 year period between the two he was fighting in Pancrase, so there isn't a lot of time - I don't believe - where he was doing wrestling and not in one of the big promotions.

I redid my Top 25 list based on the ballot I submitted for this year. Strong emphasis was placed on number of great/Top 100 worthy matches and I tried to be as objective as possible. There are a few aspects about Kobashi I don't really like but he runs away with the most important category so he has earned the #1 spot for now. Though any of the Top 5 could be #1. Santo leaped into my Top 10, though other non-Satanico luchadores took a hit.
1. Kenta Kobashi 2. Kiyoshi Tamura 3. El Satanico 4. Yoshiaki Fujiwara 5. Jushin Liger 6. El Hijo del Santo 7. Shawn Michaels 8. Eddie Guerrero 9. Akira Hokuto 10. Daniel Bryan 11. Tatsumi Fujinami 12. Jumbo Tsuruta 13. Volk Han 14. Bret Hart 15. Brock Lesnar 16. Jun Akiyama 17. Daisuke Ikeda 18. Mick Foley 19. Aja Kong 20. Akira Taue 21. Mitsuharu Misawa 22. AJ Styles 23. Io Shirai 24. Terry Funk 25. Shinya Hashimoto

This seems like fun and I am looking to procrastinate. Top 25 also seems way easier for me to rank than Top 100. I greatly prefer ranking matches than wrestlers. It is still very funny to me that I was the high voter on Stan Lane in the last voting. I never thought of myself having an extraordinary high affinity for Stan Lane but I guess I like me some White Man Karate. Until I finish AJPW 1985-1992, I am going to refrain from ranking Jumbo Tsuruta and I until I finish New Japan 80s the same goes for Fujinami and Choshu. 1. Kenta Kobashi - Great emotional wrestler in history. To put it in contemporary parlance, "he makes me feel those feels hard" 2. Ric Flair - The Fucking Man. Babyface or Heel, Ric Flair always delivers a psychologically interesting performance. 3. Genichiro Tenryu - Innovated the Freelance Career, proved there was life beyond the Big Two, automatic Dream Match worker. Grumpy Tenryu rules 4. Mitsuharu Misawa - The Misawa Formula is probably the greatest formula ever (yes better than Flair Formula), but he didnt deviate as much as Flair 5. Stan Hansen - Bull in the China Shop in the 80s and Elder Statesman Grinder against Kobashi. Hansen vs Kobashi is the greatest rivalry ever. 6. Jushin "Thunder" Liger - Shockingly does not have many tippy top great matches. Combined Stampede, Lucha and Puroresu into one package. 7. Yoshiaki Fujiwara - The biggest revelation since 2016 is how fucking badass Fujiwara is. The dude is a boss. 8. Hiroshi Tanahashi - Tanahashi Formula is the 2001 Mutoh Formula on steroids. He basically single-handedly saved Puroresu in 21st Century 9. John Cena - Greatest Pure Babyface history and every wrestling fan should be embarrassed they ever booed him (including me!). He is 2 good for this world. 10. Randy "Macho Man" Savage - Organic, chaotic wildman. Him & Hansen are two most dangerous men in wrestling. Nothing ever felt scripted or artificial. 11. Rey Mysterio Jr. - Mysterio revolutionized pro wrestling in WCW and was Mr. Consistency in 21st Century. Lack of classics holds him back. 12. Shawn Michaels - Amazing longevity. Career years in 1986 (Rockers), 1997 (King Heel Prick), 2008 (blood feud). Lack of drawing power hurts him. 13. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin - I greatly underrated Austin. Perpetual motion in the ring. Monster Draw. Lack of longevity hurts him. 14. Jerry "The King" Lawler - The King of the Punch. Amazing Babyface comeback. Platonic Ideal of Wrestling Heel. Too minimalist for me holds him back for me. 15. Shinya Hashimoto - Who Samoa Joe should've been. Alpha Male Stud. Great Death Stare. Ultimate Big Match Worker. Inokiist Environment holds him back. 16. Toshiaki Kawada - I have soured on Kawada and then came back on him. Amazing seller. Greatest Wile E. Coyote. Ultimate Choke Artist. 1995 Career Year. 17. A.J. Styles - MY MAN! Best Execution Ever. Top 5 Bumper of all time. Amazing seller. Terrific Psychology/Escalation. Lack of Drawing holds him back. 18. Brock Lesnar - MY OTHER MAN! Highest Pro Wrestling IQ of all time. No one does Wounded Bear Selling better. Athletic Freak. Longevity hurts him. 19. Akira Taue - The Greatest Henchman of all time. Arn Anderson eat your heart out. Sleazy as hell and nothing is beneath him. Being 2nd Banana hurts him. 20. Bob Backlund - My Other, Other Man! "Anything you can do, I can do better". Amazing versatility: workrate, brawling, face/heel stooging. Longevity concerns 21. Bret "Hitman" Hart - My brain can appreciate the logic behind Bret's matches. Nobody is better at grinding an opponent down. I find him a bit dry at times. 22. Nick Bockwinkel - Smooth as silk. Very similar to Bret, lots of logic, but he emotionally moves me more. I just feel weird rating him on like 25% of a career. 23. Greg "The Hammer" Valentine - A Lot of ppl say Arn is the greatest midcarder ever, nope it is Valentine. Stiff as fuck and Mr. Consistency. Could carry anyone 24. Eddie Guerrero - Infectious energy & charisma. You cannot help but smile during an Eddie match. They are just pure fun! Longevity concerns. 25. "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton - Beautiful wrestling, punch and top rope moves. Underrated babyface. Lack of main event experience hurts him.Just Missed the Cut: Vader, Rick Martel, Ricky Morton, Ricky Steamboat, Dick Murdoch, Terry Funk, Daniel Bryan, Jun Akiyama, Super Tiger Mask, Volk Han, Kiyoshi Tamura

All kidding aside, Stan Lane was awesome. Between The Fabulous Ones, Midnight Express and The Heavenly Bodies, Stan has a hell of a resume. Great wrestler for sure.

I'm also a big dumb Stan Lane fan. Always pop for the goofy karate. And that Moondogs series alone makes him a made man. Stan ruled, fuck everything else.

Just went over to PWO and looked the GME 2026 ideas thread.
Oh boy... we are (checks watch) 5 years away and it is already looking like fun... is fun the word?
I'm almost certainly going to submit this year. Maybe I'll find time to get into the conversation more.

I think I'm just going to spend five years sporadically but earnestly going to bat for Shinobu Kandori and Minoru Suzuki.
