Meiko Satomura vs. Shinobu Kandori, LLPW 2/25/2007
I had no idea what to expect going into this, since it's Kandori close to her last hurray, this being the finals of a 1 night tournament, and I've never heard of anyone mentioning any great Kandori performances in the 2000s. This ended up being just awesome though and exactly what it should be. It's basically Satomura brutalizing Kandori from the get go with the kind of nothing-held-back kicks you wouldn't expect a 43 year old lady to take. Kandori was damn great here as the aging legend trying to pull out one last trick. She came in with a bandage over her forehead with a cut and bruises underneath and takes some absolutely disgusting kicks to the skull. The spot where she goes for a headbutt only to end up hurting herself was a pretty great "aging warrior is surprised at her lost toughness" moment. This was obviously striker vs. grappler, which can be predictable, but that wasn't the case here as they timed and milked all the submission spots really well. Satomura is basically all kicks here, just trying to put Kandori down for good, basically coming forward constantly until she got trapped, she also he some great selling of her damaged equilibrium after eating some nasty lariats and palm strikes. I'm honestly amazed I haven't ever heard this brought up before (it didn't even come up in Ditchs Best of Japan poll IIRC), I thought this was really both these legendary asskickers working a great 11 minute sprint up there with the best of them in wrestling history.

2nd
I need to rewatch this one. I watched this tournament last year and was disappointed with it overall but I do remember really liking this particular match at the time.
According to the list I have (JL's), this tournament was taped on 1/5/07 (aired 1/27) and 2/12/07 (aired 2/25). Kandori had one other match this night against Dump Matsumoto (major disappointment as I recall) while Satomura faced Ozaki in the other semi-final. The 1/5 show, Kandori has a match with Hotta in the first round (sadly only highlights) and Amazing Kong in the main event.
I tried to take a look at Kandori in the 2000s last year. There's not much stuff online so I tried to grab the most interesting looking stuff from Lynch. In addition to this tournament, I got the Oz Academy Super Jumbo Tag Tournament from 8/01, which was disappointing overall due to the talent involved. Kandori teamed with Eagle Sawai and in one night they faced Devil Masami & Kyoko Inoue, Chigusa Nagayo & Dynamite Kansai and Mayumi Ozaki & Kaoru. The only thing I can recall is being really disappointed by the tournament with no standout matches.
The biggest disappointment that I watched was Kandori & Yumiko Hotta vs LCO from the AJW 2/24/03 PPV. It got a ton of time and you'd think those 4 would have a vicious brawl, but they worked a long comedy match instead.
I also grabbed an AJW Sat TV show from 3/19/01 (Taped 2/28) that has a Kandori vs Hotta main event that I should go back and watch, because I don't remember it honestly. I nominated another singles match they had from 99 when I picked all these discs up so I feel like I would have pointed it out at the time if it was worth checking out. I haven't poked around her 2000s since. I'm sure there's some good stuff somewhere out there though. She has a style that you'd expect to age well.
Its not the 2000s, but if you haven't seen it Kandori & Hotta had an awesome match on 3/10/99 that aired 7/2/99. WHen I watched it last year I had this to say: Another total gem from the lost feud of the late 90s. This was the Joshi version of the late 90s Ikeda vs Isikawa rivalry only Kandori & Hotta's matches were even better. Seriously. This isn't the bloody hate filled match of 1998 but was a much more traditional Ikeda vs Ishikawa BattlArts style main event with a terrific crowd. This has really hard nosed, rough grappling with terrific submission work building to a more bomb heavy finish. Yet another awesome match from these two.

Revisited this and it is excellent. Satomura isn't someone I'm a huge fan of, but this was awesome and I would agree with jetlag that people should check this one out.

Cagematch has the date for this as 2/12/2007. Is 25 the air date?
Also, absolutely loved this match. People gotta check this out. It is a little outside the range of my list right now, but I may try to give it a second look down the road. It should get a billion stars for the moment Kandori does her little dance while smiling after she just wrecked Meiko. I think it might be the only time I have ever seen Kandori smile in a big match.
