Trevor lee vs Chip Day (CWF Mid Atlantic Heavyweight Championship - CWF-MA - 3/25/2017)
I actually prefer this one slightly to the Lee/Everett match, but that might be because I was in the building on this one. The last half of this match is just absolutely perfect in my eyes. It is a master class in building drama and making everything count. This match is an absolute barn burner for me. As it stands now it is my MOTY and I don't see it falling further than #3 when I kind of revisit my favorites to end the year. Solid chance I at least slip this in my final five.

I'll second this.
I was there too and it's probably my 2017 MOTY, but I admit I'm not sure it fully translates to tape. The drama WAS REAL in the building as they actually convinced us for about 2 minutes that Chip Day of all people could beat Trevor. Probably the best one count spot I've ever seen because CWF never does that stuff, and some of the counters of the staple spots in this were absolutely incredible. If I end up doing a ballot I might include this in the bottom five.

Yes, YES!
This match is incredible. What really fascinates me is that it combines the greatest aspects of 'old school' big matches (slow build, great matwork, giving value to everything) and the greatest ones of 'modern eras' big matches (hard hitting, fightin spirit, credible nearfalls). CWF has become my favourite indie and is all thanks to this match. I can see this match in my top 50.

Right now this stands as the 8th ranked Trevor Lee match of 2017 on our ongoing MOTY list, and we still have a couple of 2017 CWF Lee matches to review, so it could fall out of the top 10. So no chance of this making an all time top 100, probably wouldn't make my top 1000

One of the best matches of 2017 for sure, but not something I would consider a classic.

See I rewatched it recently putting my top matches of 2017 together and I thought the drama held up on tape (second time watching on tape). I'll admit that some of the early grappling is eh, but man did they put on a show the rest of the match. It might honestly be a long shot for my list. I don't have it at 5 stars or anything, but I do think it was my favorite match of 2017.

I didn't care for the finishing stretch & the match is ultimately too long & too full of stuff for my tastes but I definitely see the appeal because all the stuff is very well done, well executed, there is absolutely a feeling of escalation. I like these more than big Bryan or Joe indy matches.

Very much a product of it's time. A lot to criticize but most of it was well executed.
Very interesting how the tastes across the board have changed throughout the decade. Glad wrestlers as a collective have moved past this over-indulgent epic formula that pretty much killed my interest in wrestling for a while.
