A bit of an underappreciated match here with an exceptional Tanahashi performance and a molten crowd. Tanahashi's played the heel to perfection, using underhanded tactics to get the advantage and generally being a bastard to Suwama. As is the case with any Tanahashi match, he attacks the legs of Suwama's and it's done particularly well here with one of his finest offensive performances ever. Suwama for his part was brilliant, with perfectly timed comebacks and some mostly great selling. Though Suwama could have sold the leg better, the leg work of Tanahashi pays off in a big way with a sublime cloverleaf sequence at the end. Not only is this Suwama's best match, but this is among the finest matches of Tanahashi's career.

Second. A hidden gem in Tanahashi's career and proof he can be a great heel as well as a great face.

A bit off topic but maybe someone can clear this up for me -
I thought it was taboo for wrestlers in Japan to appear in other Japanese promotions? I see guys like Shingo are in NJPW right now, and naomichi marufuji was in AJPW not too long ago also.
Is it considered an okay thing now? or are guys getting heat for switching over? Is NJPW just so much bigger than the others that no one takes it personally for going to them?

Tanahashi didn't jump promotions. NJPW and AJPW were sharing talent at the time (see last year's Wrestle Kingdom which was promoted as a cross-promotional event), he just appeared in AJPW's Champions Carnival Tournament as part of that. Marufuji being in the Champions Carnival in 2018 was the same kind of thing.
