Yes, I can confirm. And you can watch all that footage in chronological order too, so the complaint that has been brought up in this thread that people need context can be fixed, since we will have plenty of 1950s French pro wrestling before and after this match. And I can confirm already it's not the only match in this unique style, and French wrestling was pretty diverse so they didn't have matches like this every week either.

I definitely recommend you guys giving this a watch if you haven't already. This is a top 30 pick for me.
Imagine that feeling you got when you first saw Dynamite Kid vs Tiger Mask and multiply that by 10. That's what this 60+ year old French match did for me. Some of these exchanges are so ahead of their time, it makes you think how the crowd back then would of reacted to them. Every hold feels like a struggle and you left on the edge of your seat wondering how they are going to get out of the hold. They trade some neat uppercuts that get more intense as the match goes on, until of them gets fed up and starts headbutting them like they think they're Zinedine Zidane! We see them bust out hurricanranas, monkey flips, powerbombs and even a motherfuckin' Ganso Bomb! After every big exchange they would shake hands, but you can tell their each getting frustrated at not being able to score an advantage. I went into this with zero context, I don't know which one was Cesca and which one was Catanzaro, but I was still enthralled with this.

Just digging into French catch and what they were doing is amazing. This match is riveting and feels high end. I like that comparison w Tiger Mask/Dynamite, this is similar in that there are moments that make you go “Whoa”.

I'm really not sure what to make of this. One one hand the action was stellar - Cactus's Tiger Mask / Dynamite comparisson is very apt - but struggled to follow who was who. As such the match didn't flow as well for me as it seems to for others watching. From the little I've seen, matches where the two wrestlers were better differntiated I enjoyed a lot more, e.g. Bert Royal vs Tony Oliver. I don't speak French so perhaps this isn't enrirely fair as the commentary would have helped immensely.

This is unquestionably a great match. It will definitely require another watch from me at some point to give it further context. They were definitely ahead of their time. I couldn't believe the amount of hurracanrana's. It might have been helped if I had an easier time telling them apart. Any tips for this? Re-watched this a couple days ago and it is amazing, especially now that I have some more context for French Catch It is a tough call between this and Olver vs Royal but I give this match the nod. It had less hatred but more catch-as-catch can and a more complete match. Also, hurracanranas in 1957. And lots of uppercuts that were impactful and not overdone in their use. It was cool that they returned to the exchanges a few times with the match built around then. Catanzero got the win with what would now be called a Shiranuii/Sliced Bread # 2.

I finally gave this a proper watch and absolutely loved it. As with a lot of French catch it took me a bit to get acclimated but this is just fun. What a treat to watch.
