Lord James Blears vs Leo Garibaldi- Los Angeles 1950's
What a cool find was this? I knew Lord Blears was gonna be good, but Garibaldi looked great for a 22 year old kid. His tenacity was awesome, and he sure knew how to wrench in a side headlock. He made a great babyface opponent for Blears aggressive rough style. I loved how when Blears reached to choke him, Garibaldi would grab his hand and bend his fingers. Take note, wrestling babyfaces, NOT letting the other guy cheat is the way to go. Lots of great grappling, and I loved that while Blears was the aggressor he also came across as a total cartoon climbing around to get out of armlocks. Garibaldi coming up with different ways to counter the Lord's leg attacks was highly entertaining stuff, and after he got caught in that proto-Figure 4 his selling was right on the money.

This was great. Outside of Triple Crown proclaimations I've never seen Blears before. He came off like a proto William Regal, the gentleman who's anything but. Someone needs to bring back his Oxford Leg Strangle. Much like his match with Donn Lewin, Garibaldi looked to be a great firing back at Blears, not taking his shenanigans. Special shoutout to Blears' dazed stagger from Garibaldi's elbows.

Really enjoyed this, great showing from Garibaldi who I'd never seen before. This keeps a narrative hook in even during periods which other US mid 50s matches tend to lull in or take a tad too long shifting momentum for my liking.

Tremendous. One of the best of the 50s matches.
