Modesto Aledo vs. Teddy Boy 10/13/60 Fall match going a bit over 20 minutes. Another reason why this is the greatest footage find ever: Getting to see a guy like Modesto Aledo. Aledo was a Spanish lightweight champion whose claim to faim is fighting George Kidd in a holy grail match in England. You can easily see how he was world champion material. The holds and moves he used weren‘t a ton different from what everyone else (in France) did, but he moved in a sublime way and had a cool unique way to do things. This is also Teddy Boys first appearance, and he gives a rather impressive heel showing. Aledo is a wrestler who just keeps moving and moving, giving his opponent no breaks, so while Teddy Boy got in some slick moves of his own it soon became clear that he would have to use rough tactics to get the advantage. And that‘s just about what he did, punting Aledo with some hard kicks and then doing the unthinkable and overhead throwing Aledo over the top rope. To say that those apron bumps were insane would be an understatement. Boy pulled that move several times and you could tell the crowd was getting really unruly as he kept attacking Aledos spine. Aledos selling was great, not to mention the insane bumping, he was moving hunched over like someone who had trouble moving. Aledos eventual comeback was like the Euro version of a Jerry Lawler strapdrop as he seized the advantage and blasted Teddy Boy with everything he had, including bloodying his nose with elbows, before a dramatic finish. Really amazing match that went from graceful to super intense. Just insane that pro wrestling 60 years ago was like this.

Phenomenal performances from both men in the match. Aledo was a classy babyface while teddy boy is a prickly heel who eventually goes all out to keep an advantage. The overhead throws to the outside were so far ahead of their time. Aledo’s comeback was an all timer, and the finish and cover to wrap it up ruled. My sense when I watched it was that this was on the bubble but as I type it up I want to go higher.

This may be my favorite French Catch I’ve seen. Maybe it’s because he comes out wearing a leather jacket with his name emblazoned on the back (something I’ve never been able to pull off) but Teddy Boy just oozes a timeless charisma. This is the first time I’ve seen him and he faces a fearless bumper in Aledo. The first segment of the match is mostly mat wrestling with Teddy working underneath. Just when I was wondering if he had any offensive weaponry he decides to belly-to-belly suplex Aledo over the top rope. Belly-to-belly has always been my favorite suplex variation and this rocketed the match into the stratosphere for me. A couple of minutes later, Teddy goes for another one but a recovering Aledo is able to resist. So Teddy Boy punches him in the gut and then gives him another belly-to-belly suplex over the top. Aledo does have some comeback including great uppercuts. He then sets up Teddy for what looks like a Golden Globes kick but hits a jumping headbutt into the stomach instead. Teddy Boy soon backdrops Aledo over the top rope. Aledo crawls back into the ring and Teddy finishes him off a vertical suplex that finished like a fall-out press slam of some kind. This would have made my 2023 Top 100 if I’d watched it in time.

I'm speechless right now, it's my first time watching this and I'm blown away. I have never seen some of the stuff I've seen these two do in this match. Those takedowns and counters were incredible, with just the right doses of beauty and aggression. The constant urgency to win the match, the suplexes outside the ring, the quick pace but with attention to detail... Awesome.
