Which one ranks higher for you and why?
Bret Hart vs Steve Austin (I Quit Match – 3/23/1997)
vs
Mitsuharu Misawa vs Toshiaki Kawada (Triple Crown Title – 6/3/1994)

These are both almost next to each other near the top of my ballot so razor-thin margins we're talking here. Bret vs. Austin takes it I think though because it's the most perfectly executed double-turn in the history of wrestling by so wide a margin I'm not sure it's even debatable. Kawada-Misawa doesn't have that element of being an unparalleled achievement in some way and that outweighs it being a bit superior in terms of mechanical execution.

If this project ever achieves massive participation (like 50+ ballots) I would anticipate that both of these matches would get a few #1 votes. I totally get it. They each sort of do a certain type and approach to wrestling about as well as anything and they both achieve something extra in the execution.
I am also going to give this, by the slimmest of margins, to Austin v Hart. I would also ad to Kadaveri's argument that this is the match that launched the single hottest run in American wrestling history. It wasn't the ONLY thing responsible, but - to me - it is the primary catalyst. I just watched them back to back. They are so different, but very similar in how they have come to represent moments in time/place in the broader wrestling imagination. Honestly, Hart/Austin might get the nod because I speak English and watched it live. I can't pretend that kinda of nostalgia and resonance doesn't matter. I also just think its a slightly more visceral bit of business, which - regardless of the reason - connects with me. Hart/Austin is probably in my top 5-10 most rewatched matches ever and I never get tired of it.

I'm surprised Hart/Austin was leading this. Misawa/Kawada is like the ultimate Japanese heavyweight war while I don't even consider the 97 match to be either guys best. Large parts of the match felt pretty average.
