Finlay's a guy I think does something cool in just about everything I see him in, but none of his matches have ever approached desert island status for me. As much as I enjoy his work on a micro level, it never quite clicked with me on a macro level for reasons I had never quite been able to put my finger on. After binging several of his WCW and WWE matches, I finally realized what my issue was. The problem, at least with his US work, is that he's basically a one-man Miracle Violence Connection. By that, I mean that his matches tend to be dominated by him eating up his opponent with holds with occasional clubbering peppered in. His holds are more varied and inventive and he displays more creative flourishes on offense, so he's never as painfully dull as Doc and Gordy usually were. Still, "guy gets guzzled on the mat for 75% of the match" is a structure that just doesn't work for me. Thoughts?

Finlay is on the short list for most overrated by hardcore fans. Agree with NL

I enjoy Finlay in small doses - such as the Schumann streetfight segunda caida pimped recently - but can't bingewatch him in the way that I can with other grappling brawlers like Regal.

I'm not sure I have ever actually watched Finlay in more than small doses. I think rightfully gets credit for adding something fresh to American wrestling when hit WCW (something I think he kept up really). He has a mind for wrestling that I think stands out a bit in the mainstream landscape, a knack for knowing how to set himself apart with little things. He isn't Regal in this regard, but its a similar skill. I also think Finlay's played his character really well. I haven't watched a TON of his European stuff, but I enjoy what I have seen and its clear how and why he translated to WCW/WWE fairly well. That all said, he certainly gets overhyped because he is the kinda guy a lot of internet fans liked a lot and wanted to see more... but he was on their TVs.
I really liked both Sami Callihan matches in evolve and I am not a big Callihan fan. I also thought the Thatcher match 2011 was a ton of fun.

I watched the schuhmann street fight recently. I loved it. It wont make my list, but its a top 2-3 Finlay match at worst.
