It seems customary to have a space to unpack what we learned about our own tastes etc from such a project. While we sort through the ballots and everyone's list is fresh in their head seems as good a time as any.
I'll have more thoughts later, but I know I came away think 1993 was the greatest year for big matches ever in wrestling. I haven't crunched the numbers, but overall, my list sort of moved towards the 90s a bit more this year, I think as a result of my leanings to 90s shoot and joshi mostly.

I learned that I am not quite as high on Jushin Liger's pimped matches as I thought I was, despite still considering him to be a top twenty lock. That's not exactly a revolutionary viewpoint. I also learned that I should probably take a more measured approach next time, since I threw a list together, submitted it and THEN started nitpicking.
It's been great though, this is the first time I've watched a tonne of wrestling since the Greatest Wrestler Ever project.

Yeah, I think the nature of the project is such that there will always be a level of "shoulda coulda woulda". When you are talking about the top 100 matches EVER the separation is hair thin and subject to moods, taste shifting, etc etc. I was actually putting my list in and made a few changes as I was submitting. Almost wound up not including one of my mid-list matches because I almost lost it in the shuffle. That is all with me submitting last year and having a kind of working list for almost two years now. So, I feel that desire to be measured.
This year I felt better about more of my list after. I feel really good about my top 50 or so and pretty good about my top 80 or so and just good about the 100. Last year I almost immediately had regrets about at least 3 matches and where they placed, just getting a little distance was enough to see it. This year I don't feel that way about anything. There is one match that I felt like I wished I had ranked, but I don't have it rated as high as everything that made my list, so I'm not overthinking that.

I think you nailed it. By submitting a list last year and saving it in an Excel Spreadsheet. I had a starting point. It helped immensely. It was still absolute torture cutting 19 matches to add 19 new ones. Having that list was a Godsend. It was more efficient, less chance of accidentally forgetting a match and I feel more settled.
I learned that 90s All Japan is who we say it is! I implore people dont just watch the usual suspects. I took my time and savored the experience. I watched 81 matches from '93-'96. Fucking badass. What an era! So damn good!
2013 WWE was bitchin' as hell! We were all spoiled and I think we knew it, but what a fucking year! From Money In The Bank 2011-WrestleMania XXX, what a fucking awesome time for workrate in WWE! Lots of amazing matches!
Hiroshi Tanahashi & New Japan really saved Puroresu from death's doorstep in the early 2010s. 2010 & 2011 were BLEAK years! Tanahashi vs Okada RESCUED the scene in a big way! Tanahashi is my man and truly the Ace of the Universe! He combines Box Office and Workrate in a way few have such as Flair and Kobashi. I already had the Okada match from Invasion Attack 2013 on my list. Happy I was able to add two more Tanahashi matches on this list.

Kobashi is the greatest babyface of all time, hands down. There are guys with his charisma, there are guys with his ear for the crowd, there are guys with his ability to connect, there are guys who can bump the way he did, there are guys who were able to sell and garner sympathy the way he did, there were guys who were able to fire up the way he did, there were guys who drew the money he did, and there were guys who were able to perform remarkable feats of strength and athleticism the way he did. However there was never anybody else who did all of those things as well as he did.
Second, Terry Funk is by far the most versatile worker of all time. I had a lot of Terry Funk on my list. And there's nobody who had as many 4 and 5 star matches in as many different roles as he did. He had banger matches in virtually every territory in virtually every role from white meat babyface to touring champ to out of town heel to grizzled old vet.
Third, I really don't like or get joshi.

I think this ballot sort of reaffirmed how I rate, view, and enjoy wrestling but I still find myself pleasantly surprised by matches/styles I may not have considered in the past. I saw Rude-Steamboat years ago and thought it was good and all, but upon a second view I was blown away by how great it was. As much as I enjoy more action and work rate-heavy stuff, a more minimalist approach can be just as satisfying.

The 2020 ballot reminded me of how great Joshi was in the 80s and 90s. Chigusa vs Dump and Bull vs Aja were two of the top feuds of the 80s and 90s. AJW vs JWP (& LLPW) is as good as NJPW vs UWF or WAR. Chigusa, Dump, Devil, Jaguar, Yukari Ohmori, Hokuto, Bull, Aja, Kandori, Mayumi Ozaki, and Mariko Yoshida were some of the best wrestlers of their (or any) era. Folks like the Bomb Angels, Pantera Surena, La Galactica, Tarantula, Leilani Kai, Lioness, Kudo, Toyota, Kansai, The Inoues, Hasegawa, Hotta, Satomura, KAORU, Fukawa, Yagi, Yamada, LCO, Fukuoka, Cutie, Kimura, Suzuka, Esther Moreno, Grizzly Iwamoto etc etc range from good to really fucking great. This was an awesome era for womens wrestling.
