Professional wrestling is simple. It gets complicated by moves and spots in the name of innovation. It gets complicated by fantastical storylines and swerves in the name of “getting over”. The best wrestling is a “good guy” facing the odds and taking on a “bad guy”. doesn’t need to beat the bad guy, he just needs to make the crowd believe and come together in a symphony of excitement.
Cassidy’s sense of timing in comedy, ring-awareness, and positioning combined with PAC’s ability to be a prick-heel make this match just feel like magic. This is as simple a pro-wrestling match as you’ll find because these two are just so good at what they do that it comes off looking effortless and seamless. PAC getting cocky, Cassidy playing mind games and getting Jud bsbyface shine at the right time to bring the crowd to a frenzy.
It’s not intended to be a perfect match but it pulls THAT off so well that it isn’t anything less than perfect. In an era where wrestling fans are increasingly fickle and cynical this was hand-delivered with a wink and a nod. If you don’t enjoy this match, I’m not sure why you’re even watching professional wrestling to begin with. Don’t be so blinded by the comedic aspects as to not appreciate this as a perfect example of what professional wrestling should be.
Bonus points for Orange Cassidy winning JR over in front of our eyes.
Nothing that happened in a wrestling ring in 2020 even comes close to touching this for me.

This paragraph pretty much sums up my feelings on wrestling, and seconding this as an outstanding example of it done brilliantly. Also, did Cassidy REALLY manage to reverse a hip toss without taking his hands out of his pockets? I've just watched that spot about six times; incredible. The dive out of the ring from OC when he started to take things seriously was a huge mark-out moment.

I’m bumping this up in order to draw attention to how much I love this match I’d like to make a couple additional points:
- Modern wrestling has put so much emphasis on bloated epics and even though AEW seems aware of that now, early on they didn’t show a lot of restraint. I think it’s so impressive that something that many view as a comedy match with a one-note gimmick that s quite simply the most compact, bare bones match on the show.
-I emphasize the comedy less in this match than must because I think comedy is an element that should be in a great match. “Humor” and “human” share a common root meaning “of the body”. Some of the greatest films are very funny without being comedy. This match is SO pro-wrestling that most people miss it.

This ruled! I also recommend people give this a watch.
Orange bumped like a madman for PAC. PAC plays this straight and brutalizes Cassidy. That turnbuckle spot was downright disgusting. Orange's ability to do some of the stuff he does with his hands still in his pockets is incredible. Orange rolls himself out of the ring so he can get into PAC's head. I love that PAC has to use this trick to save himself from being pinned. Cassidy gets in some amazing hope spots and puts on an all-time great underdog performance. This is so much more than a silly, comedy match. This is well worth watching, as is hearing Jim Cornette rant over this match. He hated it so much that he didn't even watch the rest of the show! ★★★★¾

A quintessential babyface who knows how to get over with and control any crowd he’s in front of.
