I'm increasingly leaning toward putting this on my ballot, so I'm nominating it. If you haven't seen it, make sure to watch the picture-in-picture version because lots of cool stuff happens during the commercial break.
Guy with cool power moves vs. guy willing to take insane bumps is a match made in wrestling heaven, so naturally this delivered. Allin's like the best possible Manami Toyota in that he doesn't have the firepower to go toe-to-toe with much larger opponents but his ability to absorb inhuman amounts of punishment keeps him in every match until he can land the counter he needs to turn the tables. He's also one of the few remaining practitioners of the lost art of making it look like he's genuinely catching his opponents off-guard with his topes and other flying moves. The flip side of that is he crashes and burns when his opponent has enough time to react, as when Cage caught his second tope and turned it into a suplex. For Cage's part, not only did his power offense look absolutely brutal (particularly the table spot), he had enough sense to space them out to allow the impact of each to sink in. Cage powering Allin off only for Allin to turn it into a diving double foot stomp was a clever spot late in the match. I didn't watch Wrestle Kingdom, but I'm certain this blew away anything on that show.

This match is probably my second favourite AEW match after Cody v Dustin. Not sure it would crack a top 100 for me but a 2021 MOTYC nonetheless.

Wow... I'm digging the love for this. Yall have inspired me to maybe take another look at this. I have a little lower on my moty list right now, but maybe I'm low ballin it.

Really glad NL nominated this and motivated me to take a second look. I had it rated highly and thought it was a low end match of the year contender and now I think it is more or less the front runner. I'll be surprised if it hangs on to that because the ending felt a little abrupt. The Starks/Sting invovlement didnd't take much away and the top rope crucifix bomb makes sense as an ending, but together it just sort of caps it right below elite to me. The dynamic and work is really fantastic. I like how long Cage is in control. I I love how they start with two of the most impressive shows of power turned flashy offense I have ever seen. I also really like how they end with Cage's power biting him. His press kickout that Darby turned into a double stomp was fantastic. Maybe I could even buy that all that weight and muscle is why he lost on the crucifix. I wish that was made a touch clearer if I am nit-picking. Still... this is great.

I agree that the ending is kind of abrupt, but wow, that rocked. I've barely seen any AEW and that's the first Allin match I've watched, but it's an incredibly babyface performance - the moment when he flipped off Cage after taking a horrendous amount of punishment was amazing. Loved Cage's offence and, as NL said in the OP, Allin does a tremendous job of making it seem like he's catching the bigger man off guard. Superb.

I would also check out Archer vs Fenix from last night. Different match, but similar dynamic and really good/fun. I may nominte it (as well as a few other things from this year) this weekend or something.

Probably not quite a MOTYC, but this was really good. PPV-quality with both guys playing their roles to perfection.

I was higher on the Darby/Punk match and the Darby/Miro match but I think NL mentioned this in one of the recent posts and I’m interested in watching it now a year later. Those days were kinda bleak for me. I enjoyed AEW but would pretty much only really tune in for the weekly Darby match.
Darby takes a good ass kicking but I don’t usually think of Brian Cage as an asskicker so I’m curious to see how this holds up for me.

Is there a link to this with the picture in picture version that NL references? Sounds fun! I like Darby.
