Well this is fucking awesome. Veteran ass kicker vs Younger Opponent in over her head. This has some unbelievable counters and great pacing. I'm no expert when it comes to modern wrestling, but this is one of the best matches I've seen from the last decade. Satomura look incredible. Highly recommend.

Its an excellent match. I'm interested to see what folks who watch more modern wrestling think about it.
Satomura looks incredible with brutal submissions and strikes. I've never even heard of Hojo and she looks amazing. There are multiple spots where I gasped out loud and I absolutely bit on like 5 nearfalls or near tapouts.
I'm so brawl heavy I don't think I'll have a spot for it on my list but in terms of straight up clean matches, its really top notch stuff.

Yeah this match rules, and their rematch is just as good imo.

This fucking match man. What a ride. This is the kind of match you can feel the workers are having fun and doing everything they want, crafting it all beautifuly. You have early tests of strenght, character work, amazing underdog selling, tremendous striking, brutal submissions, high flying stuff, fighting spirit, great nearfalls, attention to detail... Feels like the total package if you ask me.
When it went 30 minutes, I couldn't believe it. It totally felt like the Tamura/Kohsaka of joshi, because there's no way I could have predict a time limit draw based on how they were working the whole match. They went all out since the very beginning, and still managed to put together a time limit draw that felt totally believable. I also love how the finish sets up a rematch, and boy I can't wait to see it.
If not for Banks/Bayley on Brooklyn, this would be no doubt the women match of the year. It's on my list, sitting right now at sixty-something, so maybe it has a chance to be at the final list (possibly at the very bottom though, once I rewatch all the classic 80s and 00s stuff). Definitely one of the best Satomura performances ever, and maybe the best for Hojo.

I just finished watching this and I'm torn between needing to lie down from the excitement and wanting to shout from the rooftops how great this match was. I feel quite comfortable in saying this is the best match out of Japan for the 2010s.
When I mentioned that I'd never seen Hojo wrestle before (and embarrassingly got her confused with Io Shirai), Grimmas recommended this to me. Boy, I'm glad he did. This was an absolutely masterclass performance from Meiko Satomura in terms of character work. I loved how as the match wore on she went from quietly confident in herself to this hubris-level asskicker toying with Hojo only to get her (eventual) knock back to earth when the reality of the situation finally hit. There was no way Hojo was going to topple Meiko, she looked like a Chihuahua biting off more than it could chew against the pitbull Meiko, but Satomura slowly started to see there would be no way to beat Hojo, either.
There's this unfortunate consequence of comebacks where the face shrugs off their damage to hit their spots. Honestly, beyond every intricate minutiae to her picture-perfect selling, how Hojo handled this seems like it should be something handed out as required viewing for anyone training to be a wrestler. When it came time to hit her comeback I'll be honest, I winced. I was fully expecting her to shrug off the damage Meiko had done to her so she could fire the crowd up with a move off the top rope. Yet, that never happened. As soon as she started to run for the turnbuckle her body came crashing down in a heap between the ropes. It couldn't support her weight but her adrenaline helped her hold on and climb to the top. What a fucking beautiful touch.

So glad I found time to watch this this weekend, a real standout match. Kairi was amazing in the underdog role, scampering, selling her ass off, and fighting back with fire. Meiko was a killer. Everything in this match was crisp but nothing get contrived.

I took the Top 100 I sent this year as a beta version of a list with which I can feel 100% satisfied. I didn’t have the time to review some of the matches I wanted to rewatch, so I anticipate some changes for the next edition and I have no doubt that this match will be really high because it’s one of the best that I’ve ever seen. I would like to say that Satomura is progressively escalating her lever of aggressiveness and violence but I’m not sure because she starts out this match really aggressive while Kairi does a masterclass of selling and fighting back through de pain whit all of her soul. I must admit that I didn’t expect the time limit finish and It took me by surprise, I would have preferred a decisive finish for this one, although it was great for the story they were telling.
