Kerry & Kevin Von Erich vs The Dynamic Duo (Gino Hernandez & Chris Adams) (“The Mane Event” No DQ, Hair vs Hair - WCCW - 10/6/85 WCCW)
I love this match. It gets a million bonus points for being a hair match billed as "The Mane Event." That is so precious. Beyond that, this is an awesome match that blows off the great Dynamic Duo vs Von Erich brothers feud. Just an awesome back and forth brawl with all 4 guys beating the shit out of each other.

Seconded. The Von Erichs vs The Freebirds is more famous, but for my money this was the all-time great WCCW feud, and this match was the high point. Great heel work by Adams and Hernandez. Kerry is great here and Kevin doesn't drag this one down at all (he actually sells a little). Crowd is pretty good, too. Dramatic and exciting. Maybe the last really great moment for WCCW and the Von Erich dynasty.

OK thirded but I don't understand the appeal of this match really, i prefer their cage match from a few months later if i'm honest. Fairly typical Von Erichs tag to me, where the best aspect of it is the chaotic everyone in the ring stuff. It's pretty satisfying to see Gino & The Gentleman get their hair cut of though I suppose.

Everyone talks Von Erich's vs Birds but match for match this is the better feud. The Hair vs Hair is an amazing climax. The 80s can be short on great climaxes but this feud is blown off in great fashion. Kerry & Kevin Von Erich vs Chris Adams & Gino Hernandez - WCCW 10/6/85 Hair vs Hair Definitely lived up to the hype and build of this feud. This was the last shining moment of World Class as it was all downhill to probably one of the saddest most pathetic years in wrestling history, World Class in 1987. The Dynamic Duo are not happy that David Manning is the ref. I liked all the quick pins early. This match is not about hurting each other. It is about humiliation. The quick pin means you avoid getting your head shaved and you get to shave your rival's head. it makes sense to go for quick pins. Also, liked that unlike most Von Erich matches we do get some selling from the Von Erichs and real sense of heat. Kevin was fighting hard, but it was a thumb to the throat by Gino that turns tide. Adams really manhandled Kevin to force him to sell and it was a great performance from Kevin. I loved the Iron Claw to the abdomen as a hope spot only for Adams to come crashing down on Kevin. I thought the hot tag was not milked enough, but this is Texas so that is to be expected, but Kerry is so over there is still a huge reaction. The crowd wants to see Dynamic Duo lose their hair and Von Erichs to keep that every nearfall is super hot. Adams sells the Discus Punch so well. Kerry is a great hot tag such a great presence. SUPERKICK~! Damn, I love that move. Great nearfall. Kerry reverses a suplex into a sleeper hey this isn't a Flair match. Gino interferes and Kevin trips over Kerry to get to Gino. I love that type of chaos. The heels switch out. Adams comes up short on the Superkick and DISCUS PUNCH! Does anyone sell it better than Adams? Kerry charging into corner and Kevin is great trying to corral his brother into his corner. Gino slams a chair into Kerry and KEVING IS PISSED! Everyone arms themselves with chairs. Kerry milks the count. Gino applies sleeper on Kerry. They knock heads the favorite spot of the 80s. Both tag out and Kevin meets Adams in the middle and overwhelms him. Nice dropkick and big bodyslam. Misses kneedrop. Kevin never hits those moves. Adams hits a great suplex really gets some nice force on it. Kerry and Adams slugfest. CLAW~! Gino interefers. Kerry fighting with Gino. SUPERKICK~! Powder into Kerry's face, but Kevin cross body. Powder into Adams' face and Kerry rolls up for win. The hair cutting post-match is great. Adams gets the Friar Tuck hair cut and Chris Von Erich tackles the escaping Gino and they give him the Missing Link haircut. You cant separate the great post-match from the great match together they form a classic wrestling moment. ****1/2

It's always a little jarring going back to these World Class tags and trying to get used to the choppy structure of them. Going through the DVDVR Texas set I remember thinking there were lots of really fun tags but I'd always be left wishing they leaned a little more into the more traditional southern style formula. On the other hand the choppy structure on these tags did make everything feel a little more chaotic and unpredictable, even if it was at the cost of your tried and true extended heat segments. This was a bit closer to your standard/traditional shine-heat-hot tag-finish, but still felt plenty hectic. I know he's not perfect but I love Kevin Von Erich. Who was it that said he sometimes feels like a wrestler who doesn't know wrestling is actually fake? Because it's true and there will be at least three instances of it a match. And usually it's awesome and adds a real uncooperative edge to things. There was one moment here where Adams hoisted him up for a slam and held him up there a second too long so Kevin just started punching him in the guts. He will absolutely not let you rest on your laurels. He's also a super fun seller and brings a ton of cool little moments, like one here where Adams rakes his eyes and whipped him into the ropes, and as Kevin came back off the ropes and into a backdrop he was still selling the eyes, so it looked like he just ran unknowingly into a guy who fucking flipped him over his shoulder. Adams hits two motherfucking ungodly superkicks in this, one that landed under the chin and about took Kerry's head off and then another later that blindsided Kerry and might've been the nastiest back of the head superkick ever thrown. This did not feel as short as it was and I mean that in the best way.
