Bryan Danielson v. Nigel McGuinness (ROH 6/9/2007)

Surprised to see this match sitting here as a "nominee!" This is a probable Top-30 finisher for me, an all time classic in my book. I guess it has lost some buzz over the years. My thoughts:


Man was 2007 ROH pumping out the classics. Super hard-hitting match. The first 2/3rds of this match is actually the best part. Just great struggle, stiff strikes, a real feeling of heated competition. Some true nasty moments like Danielson suplexing Nigel's back right on the edge of the guardrail. Danielson pounding Nigel's nose with forearms is another great moment. The beginning of the home stretch is actually something of a step-down in quality -- it's still really, really good, just not as sublime as some of the stuff that came before it. But then the very end is that absolutely brutal stiff headbutt exchange, an all time nasty wrestling moment. Top 30 material.

This is one of those matches were every single thing is executed at a high level. And one thing I really appreciate about this match is the very end feels like a sudden surge in intensity compared to everything that came before it.
