I’m no big-city Joshi expert but I just watched this match and it was the first time I felt like I got something substantial out of a 90s AJW match. I do not know anything about the background between these two, all I know is that there is an intensity here that stands out to me. The wild-energy, reckless abandon, clawing and brawling, raucous crowd and beautiful suplexes; this match had so many little pieces thst I enjoy in pro wrestling. I want to rewatch this to make a better analysis because I kinda feel like I just had a revelation.

As I've revisited a bunch of JOshi and watched other stuff for the first time, I've generally avoided a lot of the longish Toyota singles matches minus a few exceptions. But I'm a big fan of Shimoda so I fired this one up. To say it was better than I'd hoped would be an understatement. This was an awesome match. These two have terrific chemistry. There is one badly blown spot where Toyota completely eats shit while trying to do the fastest version of the Toyota roll I've ever seen and might have actually broken her face. But they cover for it incredibly well as Shimoda stays on top of her and just starts planting Toyota with back suplexes. Which pays off well later in the match as Toyota absolutely demolishes Shimoda with suplexes down the stretch. This starts off hot and cuts a good pace, but theres still a feeling of escalation and really good selling. Shimoda is a great heel character and adds fun little touches and Toyota is just a machine. Shimoda is also a terrific bumper and makes all of Toyota's suplexes look fantastic. This is an awesome match. I guess Meltzer rated it 5 stars in 1995 but it didn't even make the 1995 Yearbook. That makes this a lost classic. Highly recommended
