THIS RULES!!!!!!!!
Utami is a great power wrestler and technician, while Syuri is a former UFC fighter who relies on submission, takedowns, and kicks. Two of my absolute favourite wrestlers working today. It does seem like everytime Utami gains some control, Syuri has a counter with a kick or an MMA submission. They have an outstanding and dramatic match that goes 30 minutes before being called a draw.
Post match they keep fighting before Syuri says she can keep going forever and so does Utami, so they restart the match!
The restart has these two really go at it! Syuri is a fucking never stopping machine and hits one of the coolest spots I've ever seen. Both on the top rope she does a wristlock takeover and holds on to it so when they are on the mat she keeps the submission on.
Brutal strikes, some nearfalls (but not too man), and huge drama until one kick too many has both get knocked out at 13:19 of the restart, so a total of 43:19 of a match. [9.5]
I generally hate long matches, but this fucking clicked and never really felt long or excessive.
Post match, Syuri slaps her again before being helped to the back. Tora comes out to ride the wave of momentum and to challenge for Utami's red belt, which Utami accepts. Then she gets helped to the back.

This didn't do much for me. It very much felt like two not very charismatic workers doing whatever for an ungodly amount of time. The match as full of the typical bad modern day Japan epic tropes: pointless control segments leading into robotic move trading, apron bumps that don't mean shit, limbwork that doesn't go anywhere etc. It wasn't terrible, but I found myself zoning out constantly. Shuri, who belongs in shorter matches, kicked pretty hard, but after watching Rumi Kazama try to cave Kandoris face in the other day I wasn't super excited. I remember enjoying Utami before but she left me blank here.

The match was really good. It wasn't perfect as there were some obviously prolonged spots designed to pad out the time. Only less headlocks and more head kicks which was more interesting but still not quite as compelling to watch when you know it's not going to lead to much. Syuri was really good though. Utami was a bit of a passenger at times with Syuri driving most of the action and drama of the match but Utami took some of the biggest bumps of the match. Although Syuri took the worst one of the match - a wheel barrel thrown backward into the apron, headfirst. That was outright stupid though as it was just a device to keep Syuri out of the ring longer for the 20 count. ***1/2

Too many people watched it. Oh no, not many people watched it, because nobody gives a damn about pro wrestling in 2021. Kandori/Hokuto, which is probably the most popular womens match ever and happened at the biggest womens wrestling event ever is locked in my all time top 3-5, and my #1 match from the last ballot happened in NJPW. So I don't know where this is coming from. I think we all want a honest exchange of opinions on this board.

I guess this is a second? Or a third? I thought it was a pretty easy MOTYC. It probably didn't need to go as long as it did and there were a bit too many quick recoveries (although that's par for the course with most joshi), but still terrific.

Maybe I'm missing something, but this felt like a massive kick out fest. Selling was not good. It's way too long. I didn't really understand the story they were telling (perhaps I became disinterested and missed some detail). The extra round seemed rather pointless.

Watched this one just a bit ago and liked it a good bit, but it did go long to the point of really outstaying its welcome, especially if we weren't going to get a winner. The match peaked somewhere between the 31-35 minute mark and at that point I was wondering if this was my new match of the year. Somewhere in there though it declined pretty rapidly. I get the idea and I thought it fit with the overall story of the match pretty well, but every near fall down the stretch felt like it knocked it down a peg. That is enough of the negative. I really enjoyed it on the whole. I haven't watched a ton of modern joshi to be honest so I am only vaguely familiar with both women, but each physically told the story of who they were in relation to the other really well. I loved how everything was done with urgency early in the match and they never really let up on that, only added fatigue. There were a few absolutely brutal looking spots. Utami's suplex on the outside that put Syuri 's head on the apron made me scream. Syuri's missed kick on the outside was also stunning. Some of the head dropping in the final minutes helped salvage my interest as well. Overall I thought this was a great match that is probably in my top 10-20 for the year as of right now. I just wished they had tightened the end just a touch, because they proved they have a contender for this project in them I think as parts of this were absolutely top shelf.

I dug this. It had a lot of the elements I look for in a long heavyweight title match. Clearly defined roles (never give up champ vs shooter challenger), entertaining opening matwork, stiff strikes, brutal and memorable transitions, strong body part work (the work Syuri did on Utami's lung area, not the knee stuff), progressive selling, and a clean pure sports presentation. Unfortunately it suffers from going 10 minutes too long and there were serious diminishing returns on the constant near falls at the end. I also felt they devalued Syuri's submissions a bit by having Utami reach the ropes so many times after getting the sub locked in at the middle of the ring. Maybe about ****1/8 for the whole thing. Bit frustrating to think about how great this could have been with a more sensibly laid out post-restart portion.
