It's almost Halloween, so I was curious if anyone was a fan of horror movies? I greatly enjoy them, even the cheesy and dumb ones. Here are what I consider the best horror movies. I've also added the ones I just really enjoy even if they're not quite best of the best.
I am not counting Silence of the Lambs or Rosemary's Baby because as great as those movies are, I consider them psychological thrillers. I'm also choosing to leave Alien off as that feels more sci-fi than horror.
Best of the Best (10/10)
Psycho (1960 version) The Haunting (1963 version) The Exorcist Halloween (1978 version) The Thing The Conjuring The Babadook Get Out Us
Fun Watches
The Conjuring 2 Insidious Paranormal Activity Paranormal Activity 2 Paranormal Activity 3 Grave Encounters Grave Encounters 2 Friday the 13th (1980 version) Scream Dracula (1931 Spanish version) It Follows Cabin in the Woods Annabelle: Creation Gerald's Game Rec

The first Sinister movie is the scariest film I've ever seen.

Delighted to see this thread!
Horror movies are my favorite kind of movies. We have framed pictures of Nosferatu (1922), Bride of Frankenstein and Carnival of Souls. We're watching a horror movie every night this month, sometimes two and sometimes 3! Got to run right now so I can't make a great big list, but here's the twitter thread I'm doing tracking what we're watching
Just saw I fucked it up somewhere along the line and it doesn't connect all the way. Here's the other thread.
Technically we started with Alien but that tweet is too far back.

I plan on doing Halloween Kills after Dynamite tonight. I really enjoyed the 2018 movie.

Horror might be my favorite genre as well.
When it comes to the Halloween franchise, I pretend like Halloween (1978) is a one-off film and all the sequels and reboots and remakes don't exist.
Other ones (not mentioned yet) that I like
Night of the Living Dead (1968) Black Christmas (1974) Carrie (1976) Suspiria (1977) Phantasm (1979) An American Werewolf in London (1981) The Evil Dead (1981) Re-Animator (1985) Hellraiser (1987) Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) Dog Soldiers (2002) The Descent (2005) The Host (2006) The Witch (2015) It (2017)

Been meaning to watch Suspiria. Great calls on Night of the Living Dead which I just recently watched and Black Christmas.

Even the reboot of Suspiria with Dakota Johnson is very much worth your time.
If yall haven't seen it and enjoy Argento, I'd definitely recommend "Deep Red." It has the only scene that has made me legit scream "OHHHHH!" as an adult.

I'm really excited for one of Kas' recommendations: Noroi.
That's the only one I haven't seen so far, but you mentioned The Wailing and that's one of my favorite movies of the 21st century so Noroi is going on the list ASAP.
My heart warms over seeing everyone's list and no "Hereditary." That one is "good" but I feel like its been shoved down our throats as a modern masterpiece before it ever came out and I have been disappointed with it since opening night.
On the other hand I'm thrilled to see "The Witch" mentioned. I would wholeheartedly endorse "The Lighthouse." Willem Dafoe's performance is remarkable, one of the most amazing you'll ever see. I am so excited for the next 40 years of Robert Eggers. His next movies sound incredible.

Hereditary was a good movie, but yeah it never screamed "masterpiece" to me.

Can't believe I forgot about Fire Walk With Me, Sheryl Lee's performance in that is not talked about enough.
I second Elliot's recommendation of The Lighthouse. Worth a watch for Willem Dafoe alone.
