Urgency flooded the feeling of this match and it made its short run time all the better.
This is on the final day of the Fire Festival, Ohtani needing to win to go to the finals and Joe, already eliminated, has nothing to lose and decides that to truly make a name for himself, he will decimate one of the top wrestlers in both the ZERO1 and the world. Ohtani’s bloody face and selling are incredible here. The sympathy he earns from the viewer is something that still replays in my mind, just an extremely physical and impactful match. ZERO1 had an amazing year and this was the cream of the crop.

Second. Not quite on the level you would hope for considering the participants involved, but a very respectable sprint. Neat story of the veteran trying to withstand the young bruiser who is hellbent on mauling him.

There is an awesome Ohtani vs Ishikawa match from this same year that I watched last night that really knocked my socks off. Looking forward to this one and more 2002 Ohtani.
Edit
This match rules. I gotta watch everything from Ohtani in this era because all of the 2002 matches I've seen from him rule. Super fun sprint.

There’s also an Ohtani vs. Sasaki IWGP match from 2/18/01 that I’ve always wanted to see out of curiosity but never have been able to find it online.
