Sangre Chicana vs Perro Aguayo (“Hair vs Hair” – EMLL – 2/28/1986) One of the greatest brawls ever and a top 10 contender. Chicana has another classic performance selling and punching his way around the ring in a wild brawl. Perro is one of the most charismatic wrestlers ever and he is awesome in a brawl. All punches, stomps, wild charges. This is an amazing. Match I could see people being turned off by the rudo ref shenanigans, but it doesn’t hurt the match enough to knock it out of top 10 consideration.

During this entire process I am probably going to talk about how great I think Sangre Chicana is a lot. I am not sure anyone can touch him as a top shelf brawler. Perro is, in his own right, an all time performer and these two go out and put on a damned show. This one is more or less a lock on my list. It is a fun, out of control brawl that never loses the plot. I agree the ref stuff might turn some off, but I get lost in good lucha brawls so it makes no difference to me.

Third.
Sangre Chicana is probably the best brawler in lucha history. Perry Aguayo was a great brawler too at the time. This will be in my top 100. 1986 had several strong contenders for Match of the Year. This match was one of them and I’d say this was one of the three best matches of 1986.

By the way, I'm pretty sure this match took place at Arena Mexico at an EMLL show (and not a UWA show).

Easy pick
Pretty much everything you want in a hair match. This was goddamn unbelievable and Sangre Chicana is the unquestioned ruler of the world. I don't think there's anybody in wrestling history that takes punches like him. Perro jumps him early on and Chicana's eventual punch drunk selling is absolutely incredible. Perro rips up the ring apron board and slams Chicana on top of it, then he wraps a towel around his fist and punches him some more. It was like something Jack Bauer would do to interrogate a prisoner without leaving bruises. Except Perro doesn't give a shit about concealing bruises and actively wants to leave them, so before long he ditches the towel and goes back to regular bare-fist punches. In addition to being the greatest eater of punches ever, Chicana is a complete master at timing a comeback. The whole match is full of moments that have been milked to the absolute maximum in order to get the biggest reaction possible, but Chicana waits until a couple minutes into the second caida before throwing his first punch of the match, and of course the whole fucking building shakes. Chicana's tope might also be the greatest tope ever hit. He hits the ropes at a million miles an hour (he was running so fast it looked like he might fall on his face) and just uncontrollably javelins himself out into Perro's chest. Perro's second dive wasn't far off it, though. One of my favourite things in lucha is multiple rows of people running for their lives because they know a dive is coming and the guy taking it will psychotically hurl himself four rows deep, and this is Sangre Chicana who is the biggest psycho of them all so just about every person on that side of the building has to make way. Then afterwards Perro climbs over all the seats Chicana ripped off the ground with his projectile of a body to get to Chicana again, whereupon they brawl in amongst broken chairs and scattered confectionery. Third caida might've gone on a couple minutes too long, but the heat never dies and the reaction of one Chicana fan (you'll know the one as soon as you see him) at the end is why you love the pro-wrestling. If there's also one thing this match makes you wish more than you already did it's that crowds in Mexico weren't so shoddily mic'd, because this is a fancam and the heat is 1985 Mid-South level from word one.

Anyone seen this little gem? Sangre Chicana vs Perro Aguayo (Cage Match - 1992?) www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLByV5m0Ef8&t=920sI don't think it really deserves consideration here, but it is a ton of fun. There are sections where they just swing for the fences at each others domes, they both beat the hell out of the ref and strip him, and then they try to choke each other to death with the refs clothes. It has all the makings of the greatest match ever. Check it out if you haven't yet.

I was high vote on this last year and I put it through the ringer to see if it holds up this time around, putting it up against Sano/Suzuki... It got jumped but it still holds up as a true top tier match for me. From my rewatch project 8/8/2020 Sangre Chicana vs Perro Aguayo (Hair vs Hair – 2/28/1986) Current Rank: 11 Trending: Up? Fuck… I put this next to Suzuki v Sano, hoping I would come out confident as to which is the better match. I did not. This is a truly fantastic lucha braw that leans heavily on physical storytelling. I could watch Sangre Chicana stumble around and sell punches all day long. He get so so so much out of so little. It is truly amazing. He takes a real ass beating early in this match and stages some fantastic hope/comeback spots. He is selling to the moon, jumping back into the second row on some very solid looking metal chairs to sell a tope. And this is taking nothing away from Perro. I think he is responsible for setting the tone early, tripping over himself to attack Sangre Chicana, and that tone really carried through the whole thing. I just love this as a truly excellent match that excels at the most important parts of wrestling to me. Full Post: gweproject.freeforums.net/post/8310This dropped a couple spots to give way to Suzuki/Sano and - to my surprise - Devil/Nagayo... still top 15 in my book.

Sangre’s comeback and tope locked this into the top half of my ballot and locked him into the top half of my GWE ballot, I can’t wait to watch more. The early part of the third fall was really good. This has probably been noted elsewhere, but Sangre’s kickouts add to the drama here, it’s like he tries a couple of times before succeeding in a way that builds up the drama. But front to back this was wild and fun, this structure is a recipe for good matches, and when you have people deconstructing the ring to hurt each other you have a winner.

Reminder to check out two of the best ever to do it trying to kill each other. Incredible punches, impeccable timing, increasing desperation and exhaustion. One of my top 2 Lucha matches at worst.

This was a total miss for me. I tried really hard to like it but kept losing interest in the brawl.
Not on my list.

Yeah this is my working #2 Lucha match this time around. Or maybe 2 1/2. I dunno how were counting the Santo/Onita trios match. As for lucha singles, I have it #1 at the moment.

This match is one of the greatest brawl in lucha history, I consider it to be one of the best matches México ever witnessed, having Sangre Chicana and Perro Aguayo in the same ring together is a dream come true and they delivered, the offense is as brutal as expected, this match has some of the best punches I’ve ever seen, it’s one of the most intense brawls in history, if you like Memphis wrestling you’ll like this match, this apuesta saw Bill Dundee vs Jerry Lawler 06-06-1983 and said I can do better, Sangre Chicana is probably a top 5 brawler in wrestling history and his prime is one of the greatest wrestling has ever seen, I already reviewed his famous apuesta against MS-1 that’s my favourite lucha match ever, Sangre Chicana also participated in the Fatal-4-way of 1984 I reviewed a few days ago, he’s always a standout in every match he was in and this match is no exception, his babyface performance in this one is spectacular, he made the most out of Perro Aguayo’s tendencies, Perro Aguayo is no scrub either, he’s famous for his brawling style, how careless and unorthodox it was, Perro Aguayo is a special wrestler I don’t think there will be another wrestler with his skillset and attitude, he is recognizable from a mile away, a 40 plus year old man shouldn’t be able to do what Perro Aguayo was doing, I wonder how he looked like in his younger years, I talked about him two times previously so I won’t elaborate further about the lack of lucha footage.
There’s no commentary in this match only crowd noise, that situation gave this match an aura that very few matches can replicate, it looks like a real brawl that someone recorded secretly, that’s something only handhelds can do, if all handhelds were like this one, this is not about winning, it’s about beating your opponent up and keeping your hair, Sangre Chicana got to keep his hair after an amazing performance, it was enough to beat the mighty Aguayo.
