The build to this was obvious and a little convoluted. If you needed to watch the Danielson/Rush match (the Bandido & Thatcher matches were quite good also. ) and the MJF/Takeshita match.
Honestly, if you’re familiar with the two characters and watch AEW’s video package you get everything you need.
This match was just naturally compelling to me. It’s very easy to watch. Segmented well, guys that know how to stall and know when to turn it up and know how to work a crowd.

I would echo that you don't NEED to watch anything else from this. The build was good, but not crucial to the story. There is nothing that you won't immediately pick up from - as Darren said - the video package and the action.
This is really well worth checking out. As far as a 60+ minute match goes, I feel like this sort of flies by. It is a real triumph.

I think it’s more the modern wrestling experience.

I think it’s more the modern wrestling experience. I know you're low on Danielson generally, but I don't see modern Danielson as someone whose good stuff doesn't hold up. I think for me that's true of a lot of his indie stuff, but that's more my tastes changing in the intervening 15-20 years since I first watched them. These days if I love a Danielson match when it happens, I rarely don't enjoy it plenty on rewatch as well. This match specifically is not one I've ever got the hype for, mind. Edit: oops, that was meant to be addressed to Elliott rather than Darren

Sometimes I nominate Danielson matches just so Elliott watches them.

Matches that I've previously held in high regard throughout his career tend not to hold up for me. When something does like the Reigns match from Fastlane, the Kofi match or that one Randy Orton match I loved it's a very pleasant surprise.

The Orton match may be his best one ever.

Feels early to be talking about how well matches that happened less than a year ago "hold up," but I do feel like he's regressed compared to WWE. Raises the question of how much the WWE agents are to thank for those Roman and Kofi "carry jobs." Bryan is fine but he's no Eddie Guerrero

I've said for years that Bryan needs an editor. Desperately.

The editor thing is a fair comment. I enjoyed him most in WWE too and I think the Kofi match is his best.
In AEW I've generally loved him in his shorter, tighter matches and not so much when he's gone long. Every match he had in the CC just gone I thought was really good (I may nominate his round robin match with Kingston at some point - sorry in advance Elliott). But his acclaimed, longer matches I'm not so keen on. I preferred watching him run through the Dark Order each week to get to Page or overcoming Rush to get to MJF to the big payoff matches.
