Kaz Fujita vs Hiroshi Tanahashi - NJPW - 05/06/04
Couldn't find this nominated anywhere, which feels wrong. This is the maybe best I've seen Fujita and the first really great Tanahashi match. Tanahashi gives an outstanding underdog performance trying to find a way to pin Fujita. Fujita on the other hand seems less bothered about pinning Tanahashi than he is kicking him into unconsciousness, to which he takes great delight. One of the themes that characterised this era of NJPW was the stylistic (not to mention ideological) struggle between pro-wrestling and fighting. This might be the best example of this gelling to the benefit of both styles. Everything looks painful, legit and a potential match ender.

Cool nomination. This has been on my watchlist for a while. Is there a link or a file somewhere?

I got it off Ditch's site but that seems inactive now (RIP!). If it isn't floating about somewhere I can try and upload it when I get a chance.

Thanks NL. Second.
This doesn't compare to the best matches of 2004 but was very good because of the unique character dynamic. Malicious, arrogant shooter vs. newbie with a plan and a never-say-die attitude.
