To GMEProject. It’s been a few months since I have posted on this forum. As it is Wrestlemania week, I want to just post some random observations I have made since I rubbed shoulders with you guys last.
Ok, so, here we go.
1) I have finally seen the Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns match from Wrestlemania 31. I have heard/read a bunch of people say that this is the best Wrestlemania main event ever, and it made into one of the GME top 100 lists. I think, being generous, I would give this match 2.5 stars out of 5. I really don’t see what makes this match special.
2) I have been watching some FMW matches for the first time in my life, and I like this former wrestling company a lot. I saw some of the guy who’s surname was ‘Hashimoto’ and wow, his strikes were really stiff. FMW was just generally amazing. Lots of beautiful, beautiful stiff matches with crazy spots. The Japanese ECW, at least that’s the impression I get about FMW.
3) As I have said before, I am not a fan of modern WWE, but Wrestlemania 39 is likely the most stacked wrestling PPV I have ever seen. It’s just absurdly stacked. I’m surprised Rey Mysterio agreed to do a feud/match with his son, Dom.
4) I have recently watched the lights out match between Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa, from AEW Dynamite. 5 stars from me. Probably one of the top 5best matches I have ever seen. Also, Hangman Page vs Jon Moxley from Aew revolution 2023 was spectacular (and I am not a Moxley fan at all). As was MjF vs Bryan Danielson iron man match from the same show both 5 star matches in my view.
5) AEW’s Bryan Danielson turned heel about 11 hours ago. Very good move from Tony Khan, in my view, as it gets lots of eyeballs on AEW. I predicted about 5 months ago that we would get a Danielson vs omega match at double or nothing 2023, and it looks like I might be right. Not to brag or anything.
6) I recently watched the famous Rey Eddie match from Halloween Havoc 1997. I am aware that many people regard this match as one of the very best matches of all time. I must admit, it’s a very good example of a high flying match , with risky spots, where every risky spot somehow lands very very well, and I have no clue how Rey Mysterio did that backflip ddt on Eddie (that DDT ……. I just don’t have a clue how it was executed). It’s a really fine match. But, yeah, I don’t think it’s up there with the hundreds of classic Japanese matches that happened over the decades in companies like AJPW, NJPW, FMW, Noah etc.
7) How is ‘W*ING’ pronounced? Is it pronounced like ‘wing’?
8) I watched some of the match between Jun Akiyama vs Kenta Kobashi from Noah on 2004 or 2005 (I can’t remember which year it was). Sensational match with some excellent spots. I’ve heard that this match was a highly anticipated match that had been anticipated for years. Both men are studs for being willing to take such insane bumps. I’m referring the last match these two had in Noah., which featured a vertical suplex to the outside. They had some prior bouts in Noah, where Kobashi took a suplex and landed on his neck on the concrete after Akiyama removed a piece of floor padding. I’m really perfectionist about camera work in wrestling matches, and if a spectacular spot has the point of impact missed by the camera, then I think it’s such a shame, and it ruins the match for me. There was a match between Kenta Kobashi and that Japanese dude with long blonde hair, the one who always get the crap beaten out of him (Yoshi-something is his surname I think, he had a match with Mirko Cro Cop 20 years ago or so. ). Anyway, This blonde Japanese guy gave Kobashi a German s from the edge of the ring, to the outside, which I have never seen done before, and the cameraman misses the freaking point of impact. And that ruined the spot and ruined the match for me.
9) Manami Toyota was such a spectacular wrestler, and I have just started watching her matches. What a brilliant wrestler. And I plan on watching her match with , I think it’s Kandori, which won the 1995 match of the year award with some American wrestling magazine.
10) I once saw a RINGS match that was on a GMW top 100 list, and I didn’t understand what was going on. I couldn’t tell if it was a shoot match or a technical kind of match
11) A year ago or so, Isaw Triple H vs undertaker from Wrestlemania 27 (not the Hiac match). I find this match (from WM 27) to be very overrated. It’s on so many top 10 lists on YouTube, and I don’t understand why it’s there.
12) I was very surprised to see that WWE didn’t go with brock lesnar vs Gunther at Wrestlemania. Some wrestling media YouTube personalities had been discussing how wwe might be making the match, and I was sure WWE would have heard how many people wanted to see brock vs Gunther, and, instead they went with Brock vs Omos, I actually kind of respect WWE’s decision to go with brock vs Omos, and it shows that they won’t just pander to what people say they want all the time.
13) Number 30 entrants winning the royal rumble is such a dumb, stupid idea. What a joke. Wow, Cody just eliminated Gunther, who had been in the match 40 minutes longer than the fresh Cody.
14) I’ve heard So Freaking Many people say that they love this Bloodline story line, and how it’s the best wwe storyline in decades. I think the bloodline storyline sucks, and I think the bloodline storyline is supercrap. ‘Oh , but, Jey Uso is conflicted and doesn’t want to let his feeling show blah blah blah’. Oh please. Japan doesn’t have this crap.
