Hangman v Swerve Strickland: 9.65 (from 642 votes)
Bret v Stone Cold at Wrestlemania 13: 9.64 (from 712 votes)
Just something I have noticed. I haven't seen the match.
Do you guys think this match at Full Gear will get on the aggregated 2025 gme 100 list?
Do you think it will it make your 2025 ballots?

Cagematch ratings are awful. Those people think the greatest match ever happens every week.
I literally just finished watching it and as of now there’s a great possibility I’d include it. I thought it was a tremendous match. It’s not anywhere in the vicinity of Bret Austin at wm13 (the second best Bret/Austin match) but absolutely a great piece of business

This is a match I'd never consider for this project but I do think it was great. Top 10 MOTY? sure.

It has a charm that I could see putting it in the bottom of my list but certainly not a contender for GME.

There's a strong AEW bias on Cagematch, or at the very least, a bias towards a certain group of wrestlers. If you watch the match ratings each year enough, you'll notice AEW fans doing their best to get AEW matches the top-ranked ones every year.
Cagematch is great for historical research and stuff like that, but the ratings system is very vulnerable to brigading, even with all the changes. People get very clever about it.

I will never watch Swerve/Hangman, let alone vote for it. Matches like that literally make me physically ill. But the Cagematch rating can't be chalked up to a pervasive pro-AEW bias when the MJF/Jay White main event (which I liked quite a bit) currently sits at 4.67. There are just lots of wrestling fans who get off on ultraviolence and gore presented with a big-league budget. In any event, it's currently at 9.63 behind Hart/Austin, so it looks like our long national nightmare is finally over.

I watched the highlights. The blood drinking spot was a little too much, in no small part due to the lack of subtlety. Pirata Morgan did similar things but it was always about the visual of the mist after the more inconspicuous wound biting. Lapping up dripping blood like it's rainwater is just silly.
I am tentative about checking out the match in full since they seem to go the Page/Moxley direction of abandoning the hatred to favor of trading hardcore spots.

It's funny, because I believe this one perfected what Mox/Page failed to do: combining both the hatred and the wild spots. Everything here was done with so malice behind it, even if it also hurted themselves (hell, specially if it also hurted themselves, as one theme of the match was how both went to a sadistic point of no return with this war). Also, no spot set up dragged the match at any point.
