AJ Styles vs. Jerry Lynn vs. Lo-Ki vs. Psicosis
Date: 06/26/2002
Promotion: National Wrestling Alliance Total Nonstop Action aka NWA:TNA WON rating: ****1/2 - Cagematch user rating:8.82 Match type: Double Elimination
Event: NWA Total Nonstop Action #2
Double-elimination match here, which I believe is a kind of round-robin style of match. I learned of this match about a year ago as there is a podcast episode on the internet which lasts around 72 minutes, and the episode is entirely about this one match, and, for almost 60 minutes, there are 3 or 4 people talking about how amazing this match is. They did a move-by-move analysis, and not one bad thing was said about this match that whole time. One of them summarised it is a top-100 of all time , and another said it was in their top-3 of all time. So, I got the impression that this is a classic.
It certainly is a fine match. 3 piledrivers; 3 DDTs; a sort-of-brainbuster; one of those running sentons over ropes; and a nice aerial move from AJ mean a nice bunch of moves feature. A blemish-free match throughout and fast, intense action make this an easy watch.
This quality of match is probably common in Japan for the past 35 years but it is special by pre indy-revolution North American standards, I would say.
