First-ever encounter between these two, and it's free on Collision.
For a TV match, this is a real treat. 19-minutes of technical wrestling and strikes - some of which are satisfyingly stiff. I would say that more than 50% of this match is technical wrestling.
The Okada v Shibata match had the best technical wrestling I have ever seen, and this is an inferior bout in every respect, but is also a really good match which could have been much worse.
A blemish-free match and a real dream-match too (I feel that quite few will have badly wanted this match to happen since 2014-or-so).
There is a spot in this match where Danielson goes over ropes, where he could have injured one of his knees, as he landed Cena-style.

Obviously not an all timer. It was great tv match between two guys that were dream opponents for many and were once thought to never wrestler again. A great little story and another great little tv match for AEW.
I don’t think much of it beyond that.

Not really on the level of most nominated matches though for me.

I think that’s the case for the bulk of Danielson’s AEW matches. They’re like his make a wish run.

2nd. Not as athletically impressive as Saber/Bryan from NJPW, but much more cohesive and I enjoyed it much more as a result. The WoS cosplay stuff was fun and I liked the careful progression from joint locks -> strikes to joints -> strikes to chest -> strikes to head. They succeeded in making the striking portions feel like a natural extension of chess match they were playing with the grappling and they continued to attempt/sell for each other's submission attempts even towards the end. Knowing the history of both guys' issues with head injuries also added some drama when they did start trading head shots. Plus it ended when it should have instead of doing a lengthy stretch run for the hell of it. (Where did it go so wrong that I'm praising a match for ending after 20 minutes instead of going 30 or 40?)

Yeah one aspect I really appreciated from this one is the sense of progression. It's not like they're randomly switching between different stuff to do because they feel they have to do a little bit of chain and then an strike exchange and then nearfalls or whatever (looking at you, Okada). They chain because they're two of the best well trained chain guys of their generation, but then they push each other because they're cocky, then they beat the shit out of each other, then Bryan ducks one last strike after losing the battle and goes for something different... The match is full of things like that, and I loved it.
Sadly, as great as this was (and it was indeed great, one of my favourite tv matches of the year by far), you can still feel they're holding back because they can't go as hard as they could've ten years ago. I'm so glad this happened, because we have a glimpse of the MOTDC they could've had together at their peaks, and that glimpse is still much better than most of the "big matches" most other wrestlers like to pretend they're working.
