Nobuhiko Takada vs Kiyoshi Tamura - UWFi - 02/14/93
1993 UWFi so the matchup is hungry up and comer Tamura vs King Takada. You get the cool matwork you'd expect from a Kiyoshi Tamura match coupled with a very pro-wrestling power vs technique story of Takada being gradually outclassed on the ground but retaining knockdown power when standing. Both guys sell the threat of each other and Tamura shows a lot of fire here, yelling in Takada's face as he takes his slaps whilst trying for a Boston crab. The finish is cleverly done in that it makes the difference between the two clear but keeps both strong.

2nd. Tamura had some underrated gems in the early years of UWFi. This is one of them. Tamura really does outclass Takada on the mat at times, but Takada is the man and the match does a good job of building around his striking and size being the crucial factor. It's not overbearing to the point where you go "Damn, Tamura really should have won that match." Great stuff.

3rd.
Terrific match.
Tamura is in his not wearing shin pads formative grappling years & really pushes Takada to some of Takada's most exciting & engaging grappling I can remember. Takada is usually awesome while standing & he is here. Tamura's selling is tremendous. I always used to say he was the best wrestler in the world from 94-99 & he's not far off that level already. He's just not yet fully formed like he would be when he put the shin pads back on. Anyway an excellent match. I agree that Tamura's UWfi is really overlooked in the wake of his RINGS run. He had some incredible matches & performances in UWFi.
We really should've gotten a rematch & Tamura win in 94.
