My new favorite of the trilogy and a solid MOTYC, even if 2014 was a curiously weak year for wrestling.
There was some flashy offense near the end here but this is a surprisingly minimalist G1 bout with an old school heel favorite vs. scrappy underdog vibe, primarily built around Styles working over Naito's reopened cut. Some of the transitions weren't optimal but the deliberate pace allowed things to breathe and the selling was on point.

Enjoyed this very much. Some aspects I didn't like since I'm generally not a fan of AJ but Naito really jumps off the screen for me, even in the matches I don't like. I thought they did a great job having an engaging match & built to a satisfying conclusion without going overboard.
Stuff like this is why I'll watch everything that gets nominated. I wouldn't ordinarily watch this in 100 years but it's great & I enjoyed watching it.

Great match. One of the hidden gems out there.
Prime AJ was fun to watch and proof that Naito was destined for greatness.
