Trio Fantasia vs Los Thundercats (Monterrey - 12/8/1991)
One of the most fun matches in history. 6 carton characters beating the shit out of each other, bleeding all over the place and flying around. I said before in another thread that it would feel kinda weird not to consider the best trios matches since there have been so many trios matches in lucha history. The problem is that so many of them run together that it can be difficult isolating and remembering the great ones. This doesn't have that problem due to the wackiness of it, and the fact that it is an awesome match.

2nd.
"So what are you planning on doing tonight?" - "I dunno, taking my little daughter to watch a bunch of children's cartoon characters beat eachother to a bloody torn pulp."
This match is basically the equivalent to an early 90s black/death metal record. It's gruesome, cartoony, sometimes sloppy and primitive, grim, badly produced, an utterly morbid spectacle, and hellishly great at times. There probably exists a better VQ version of this, but I don't need to see it. I get the criticism some have had of this match that there isn't all that match, but there are enough quick cuts and gruesome closeup shots of cartoon hero's throwing wild punches, clawing at eachother's face, bashing the next guy's head into the wooden side of th ring, or just flat out bowling eachother into the crowd to keep me entertained. The 3rd fall is utter mayhem with everybody flying around and crashing a bunch including useless Super Muneco getting his shoulder crushed and everyone walking around with their masks torn and bloodied looking like disfigured mutants. Grimy, seedy, bizarre and fun as fuck, it's everything a Monterrey bloodbath should be.

Third.
1991-12-08 Trio Fantasia vs. Los Thundercats [masks vs. masks] (Plaza de Toros Monumental in Monterrey, Mexico) This was a fun lucha trios match. Trio Fantasia consisted of Super Muneco, Super Pinocho and Super Raton. Los Thundercats were Leono, Panthro and Tigro. You can’t go wrong with cartoony masked luchadores beating each other up in a bloody and chaotic brawl. There is a possibility this will end up in the lower regions of my top 100 Greatest Matches Ever. Even if it will possibly not make my list, I like the idea of people considering it for their list.

This isn’t going to make the cut for me, but I encourage people to check it out. I was reminded of Shield vs Ryback/Hell No so if that is something you are considering, give this a shot.

This was my #97 this year.
Wrestling can be great for many different reasons. For example, wrestling can be great because it recreates the thrills and intrigue of a legitimate sporting contest. Or wrestling can be great because it tells a compelling story with interesting characters. Or because the wrestlers wow you with their athleticism or mat skills or their disregard for basic survival instincts. Sometimes wrestling can be great because you connect with it on a raw, emotional level, the sense of struggle and the underlying framework of shine->heat->comeback tapping into something primal in the human psyche. And sometimes wrestling can be great because it features grown men in bad superhero outfits biting and bleeding and punting each other in the unmentionables.
This match is great wrestling.

Unbelievably great match, but one that also really stays in your mind for a while after for a couple reasons.
The gear that all the wrestlers in this match have on is so cartoonish and outlandish that seeing all these guys punching eachother and bleeding all over the place you can’t help but forget it.
But the thing that really makes this memorable for me is the quality that this exists in, it makes it feel like something you maybe aren’t supposed to see but you can’t help but watch it because of how obscure it feels.
This match will probably end up on the bottom half of my list for obviously just being great but also for how memorable and insane it all is.
