Dick Togo vs Billyken Kid (Osaka Pro 2/11/2010)
Best match I have ever seen live and best crowd I have ever been a part of.
Billyken lost threetimes in a row to Togo, the third loss also costing him the championship.
His ONLY hope for redemption was to win the Tennozan Tournament to get the title shot at Hurricane 2010. Believe me when I say that EVERY Osaka Pro fan was with him every step of the way.
That is the key to understanding why this match counts as legitimately great: Billyken was that most rare of all pro wrestling types in the 2010s: an absolutely beloved pure baby face.
This is, most likely, the most recent example of an epic pure good vs pure evil title match in pro wrestling that played out before a totally un-ironic crowd that sincerely wanted the good guy to win.
it goes without saying that there is no better man in the Japanese indie scene to play the villain in this case. Dick Togo was absolutely superb in his role: Nasty, violent, cheating, mask-ripping, superior and cocky...
but it is insane to suggest, as many have, that Billyken is being carried here. BOTH guys are perfect in their roles, and those roles are almost lost these days. It's damn near a miracle that anyone could get the crowd believing in good vs evil in a pro wrestling ring in 2010. These guys did it.
Please give this match a chance. It deserves it.

I watched this based on gordi's rec and I'll second this.
Each played their role of the confident cocky heel and the underdog babyface very well. The section where the Kid loses his mask and wrestles quite a while with a towel over his face was intense. The comeback was really good with a very satisfying finish.
It won't make my list, but I could see it on some people's lists.

I'll 3rd this echoing everything Gordi has said. It's one of the more outstanding "lucharesu" matches post 90s multiman madness for sure. A little long maybe but the face/heel story is as effective as I've seen done in this style.

A commanding heel performance by Togo as the arrogant champion vs. the smaller challenger. Taunting, mask ripping, cheapshots and lowblows, sadism, it's all there. Great desperation from him in the finishing stretch as BKK was able to overcome all of that and Togo was running out of steam. The interference spots were very clever and well done with respect to the narrative and payoffs. Great match.

This one was really good - the cheating, towel spot, wanting Billy Ken Kid to win but I feel like they over did it a bit on the kick outs for me to make my list.

Another one I couldn't find. Was really looking forward to revisiting this one. Is this floating around?
