Negro Casas vs El Dandy (EMLL - 07/03/1992) This is one of those matches that I feel lucky to have. Two of the greatest wrestlers in their prime having a long title match against each other. These are two of the best all around wrestlers in history and here is a great opportunity to see them have a long technical match with each other that shows just how great they are. It is a dream match that happened. This is Jumbo/Terry Funk, Misawa/Kawada, Flair/Steamboat. Classic shit.

Second
Yeah, I don't know what else to say about this match. This is just a beautiful match in my opinion. It is great not because it is unique or captured lightening in a bottle. It is great because two great wrestlers went in there and did what they do better than almost anyone else. This one is a strong contender for the top half of the list and could creep up pretty high as this process moves forward.

3rd. Total super classic. There may be some questionable selling in the third fall, but fuck it... like 17 minutes of opening matwork. Not super graceful, just a lot of tight body spraining holds trying to sink into a submission or pin, hard slams and takedowns into the mexican brick wall mat. Always twitching and twisting to get out of a hold or the shoulders off the mat, up to the very end. Probably the greatest knee to the balls in a match ever. Then the near fall bonanza with Casas selling like he wants to lie down and quit but his pride won't let him.

From my rewatch project on 8/8/2020 Negro Casas vs El Dandy (CMLL Middleweight Title – 7/3/1992) Current Rank: 52 Trending: Down-ish I forgot how much the walk outs looked like they were straight out of a late 80s movie, splendid. I put this up for comparison to Baba v Robinson and didn’t think much about the commonalities. Both of them really come off as matches that are just great wrestling matches. No gimmicks, nothing crazy… just two matches that excel at wrestling storytelling in their respective genres. This is a fantastic bit of lucha libre business. I think the “Casas Factor” is on full display here. Casas has the ability to make a match feel different. He adds little flourishes and struggles throughout that set the match apart and keep it from feeling quite as cooperative as some lucha can feel. I think we see that from the beginning. I love the grappling early on here. I think it is really top notch stuff. I think they work in an organic feel to lucha grappling that is quite difficult. The last few minute stretch is also really high quality. I thought the end could have been a bit more dynamic, but the home stretch was fantastic. This is as high end as it gets in lucha title matches. That said. In the rarified air of my top 100, this is going to slip a bit. As much as anything, it might just be my mood or the trends in my taste, but this came off as an incredible match, but not one that would exceed its top shelf peers Link to Full Post: gweproject.freeforums.net/post/8278

This is my favorite lucha match of my current re-watch and certainly my favorite non-apuestos match. It has the scientific excellence of the 1990 Dandy-Azteca match while still having the feeling of grittiness of the Dandy-Satanico matches. The finish of the first fall with Dandy taking bumps before Casas put him in the scorpion deathlock was excellent. Casas followed up with a quick dropkick. Then when Dandy got the pin for the second fall he followed up with a series of impactful dropkicks. This match probably has the best combination of falls I’ve seen in lucha as well. Will finish high on my list.

Awesome. It looks like I'll only be the marginal high-voter on it this year. Last time I voted I don't know if anyone was within 20 places of where I had it. Very cool.

They say that Lucha Libre is art and science, beauty and knowledge, and there is no one better than Negro Casas and Dandy to represent it. Classic title match with super competitive matwork sections, strikes, and lots of excitement in each fall. One of those matches that not only meets expectations, but also feels somewhat generally underrated.
