Kazuchika Okada vs Kenny Omega (G1 Climax - NJPW - 8/12/2017)
For me the best New Japan match since their renaissance and maybe the only one that'll make my list. I liked their first two matches but this builds off those two and is far more compact and compelling. Great narrative of the top challenger getting better and better since his initial loss and finally toppling the ace, Misawa-like selling by Okada, brutal neckwork and great action and teases along the way.

Second.
Best match of an already-amazing trilogy. Cuts the fluff out and gets right to the action. Also tells a great story of Kenny exploiting Okada's earlier neck injury. And while Kenny winning seemed like a foregone conclusion even before the match started, the drama both men created made me think for just a moment that Okada could pull it off.
Top 50 contender.

Another great match, another MOTYC, Omega really has come a long way since his overactive junior days. Great story, great selling, great spot progression (mostly, although I didn't like the piling up of neck spots after the huge reverse hurricanrana outside, this spot was enough to warrant a great nearfall), great execution (yes, it does matter), great drama.

This was part of the New Japan G1 Climax tournament. It was the third match in the 2017 Okada vs. Omega trilogy. I think I prefer the first two match, but I feel this match deserves to be nominated anyway. This match was worked a slightly faster pace than their previous two matches because of the 30-minute time limit in G1 Climax tournament matches. This caused this match to have more of a feel of urgency to it. I think this match will likely end reasonably high on my list.

I watched this ages ago, like microstatistics earmarked it as my favourite modern NJPW match, and only revisited it today. Great, great, great. The sense of urgency suppresses Omega's goofyness. Hope his eventual title run in AEW is filled with matches like this.

This match was everything the Dominion 2018 match needed to be.

I think a thread about this rivalry and which match people prefer would be interesting. Its a deceptively diverse series of matches.

I was really grateful this was only 24 minutes.
