Great match. About as great as you’d imagine a Flair vs. Martel match could be. Probably one of the four or five best matches of 1985. The match took place at an All Japan Pro Wrestling show. Ric Flair was the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Rick Martel was the AWA World Heavyweight Champion. This was a title unification match, however the match resulted in a draw (so the titles were not unified). There's a chance this will be in my top 100.

Seconded, although I would not go so far as to call it the best possible match these two could have had. Really good struggle throughout and Martel shows the fire. Thoroughly enjoyable.

This is one of the most underrated matches of all time, sadly. It's perfect every single minute. The attention to detail was out of this world.

This was a great match and it built brilliantly to a crescendo. I agree with the point that they paid great attention to detail and one thing I noticed is that the camera work for this match was awesome, it zoomed in on the struggles and just felt right all the way around and feels like that contributed to the whole experience.

This will remain at my top 20, for sure. It is the most underrated match of all time, considering both the ringwork and the forgotten high stakes. I guess it would be much more remembered if the titles got actually unified, but damn it is almost perfect. Peak classic big match style.

I know I’ve seen this but I remember nothing. I love both guys. I was hoping not to try and make room for anything else. Already having a hard time getting it down to 100

I know exactly what you mean, at this point I guess I’d rather nudge out Flair but I also don’t know if I have a Martel match in my top 100. Not for lack of contenders: Bock, Lawler, Rose singles and tags are all legit.
Anyway, this match was really good and they suited their styles to the occasion.

Anyway, this match was really good and they suited their styles to the occasion. 85 Flair is really special and Martel was one of the best babyfaces if the time. I really like that Bockwinkel match. Don’t think I include it. I always vote for Martel v. Funk because I decided that’s the match that I would show anybody to introduce them to wrestling. I’m excited to watch this.

Also, I don’t know if the Buddy Rose matches have been nominated yet but I have them on my rewatch list.

Terrific match. A fun mini project would be to watch Flair vs Martel, Flair vs Choshu & Martel vs Choshu from 1985 and compare how they all work with each other.
