Lucha maestro Wagner comes to New Japan and twists Koji into knots while adapting well to the high impact juniors style. Great heel work. Kanemoto is great in the underdog babyface role as well.

Second.
Seeing Kanemoto go from a magnificent heel in the previous year's final to a sympathetic underdog the following year sure is something. I love how Wagner is just punishing Kanemoto throughout. Even the early submissions and grappling in the opening minutes seem vindictive. Part of me wishes Kanemoto had more sustained comebacks, but it really is excellent psychology that Wagner would be able to shut him down so quickly each time due to how much damage Kanemoto took.
Fantastic selling, storytelling, and escalation. One of the best matches of 1998.

Best Kanemoto match ever. One of the best juniors matches of the decade. Great stuff.
