1991-01-11 Manami Toyota vs. Akira Hokuto [AJW All Pacific Championship] (AJW @ Kawasaki-shi Taiikukan in Kawasaki, Japan) Akira Hokuto had an injured arm. All Pacific Champion Manami Toyota didn’t hesitate to work over the arm quite a bit. January 1991 had many interesting matches, and this was one of the four best matches of January 1991, in my opinion.

I really liked how focused Toyota's performance was, and while her heat segment was maybe a bit too long and not very creative, it definitely helped the match to feel special. Hokuto sold it pretty neat as well. Then Hokuto made a comeback and she injured Toyota's leg, giving her a taste of her own medicine kind of, but it was too short and Manami didn't sold it as well. Definitely worth watching but they should have made more with the tools they had, imo.

I didn’t realize this match was nominated, I thought it was a really interesting match and Hokuto was phenomenal. I don’t expect it to land on my list but I would highly recommend it.
