El Dandy vs Pirata Morgan (Hair vs Hair - EMLL - 9/23/1988) This is one of the best lucha matches ever. This is a fucking spectacular match. Totally out of control bloody brawl that also has some absolutely beautiful high spots with amazing athleticism on display. People always talk about El Dandy's 1990, but I think he was at that level during this match. Top 50 contender that will be ahead of a lot of classic matches.

Seconded
Love it... love it love it love it. I am a vampire so there will be a lot of blood on my list, so this one is going to get a pretty good spot for me. I will also likely have this ranked fairly high compared to some matches that are generally considered classics. This match accomplishes that lack of real control in a brawl that makes 80s brawls (across context) probably my favorite thing in wrestling).

A few other threads have me already discussing my love of Pirata, and while I don't share the El Dandy love (outside his peak) that a lot of other do, this is a great example of him in top form. I am also a total ghoul. Blood for no reason is a crutch, but Pirata makes it a tool unlike anyone else in wrestling history.

Two of the greatest Mexican pro wrestlers ever in a bloody hair vs. hair brawl at Arena Mexico. Can’t go wrong there. This was a great brawl. Both men juiced. This match had some great bumps and great selling. This certainly has a pretty decent chance of ending up on my top 100 GME list.

Really nice. Everything seems fluid and natural. El Dandy is very good. So is Pirata Morgan. ****

I listened to this the other day. I've really enjoyed them so far. I have been painting walls and ceilings in our house so these have been a great help haha. This made me want to go back and revisit the match. I love this.

A crazy lucha brawl with both guys spraying mist with each other’s blood. Morgan controlled the first fall with Dandy picking up speed in the second and winning with a figure four. The third fall was starting to lose speed but Dandy came alive with a crazy armdrag and a hard-hitting tope. He gets the roll-up for the victory and Pirata’s hair.

Sensational bloodthirsty masterpiece. One of the highlights of any Pirata Morgan apeustas match is him lapping up someone's blood straight from their forehead and spraying it in the air like a demented vampire, and he did that within about a minute and a half here so we got an early indicator of how good this was going to be. He wiped the floor with Dandy in that first caida and while Dandy maybe over-milked the ref' preventing him from throwing retaliatory punches, I at least appreciated how quickly Morgan pounced on the advantage that presented itself. There was no quick second fall to tie things up here either; Morgan kept going at Dandy with a vengeance, then when Dandy made his awesome comeback they stretched it out a little longer than usual. Of course Pirata Morgan does what he always does in wagers matches and bleeds like a psychopath. I love Dandy getting some payback from earlier by biting Morgan's open wound and spraying the blood in the air, albeit with less grizzly proficiency than his opponent. The tercera might genuinely be my favourite deciding fall in an apuestas match ever. I had no recollection of it being this great but jeez louise these two were fucking incredible in this. The blood-loss selling, the desperation, the PUNCHES, the bumps, the big dive, everything. Dandy tries a falling headbutt and one point and Morgan mule kicks him right in the face and it was the best reversal to a falling headbutt I've ever seen. Some of the moves off the top looked not one bit graceful and they were all the better for it, especially Morgan's attempt at a senton where he barely mustered the energy to flip himself over, only to crash on the mat like he'd been fired out a catapult after Dandy moved out the way. I was so wrapped up in the moment that it didn't even register that they hadn't yet hit a dive, so when Dandy dropkicked Morgan to the floor and hit the ropes I got legitimately giddy. And of course Dandy's tope over the top like a fucking torpedo. Morgan's determination to put the figure-four on Dandy after Dandy won the second fall with it was always going to be his downfall and sometimes the most obvious payoffs are the best ones. Holy fuck this was tremendous. Straight into the top 40.

El Dandy vs Pirata Morgan (Hair vs Hair - EMLL - 9/23/1988) CMLL 55th anniversary show
El Dandy in the 1980’s was very impressive, many people act like his career began in 1990 when his most iconic matches happened, like El Dandy vs El Satánico or El Dandy vs Ángel Azteca but his career is deeper than that, he wrestled Javier Cruz in 1984, I think his prime began in the late 80’s and matches like this prove it, El Dandy is a fantastic brawler everybody knows it but the main difference between his 90’s matches and his 1980’s matches is his role, in the 80’s he worked as a babyface while in his famous matches he worked as a heel, in my opinion he’s way more charismatic as a heel, as babyface he’s convincing but not as inspired as he was as a heel, Pirata Morgan is one of the greatest mexican wrestlers ever if you’ve seen my greatest wrestlers ever list featured him around the bottom 25 of that list and that was for a reason, his most acclaimed run happened as a member of the trio Los Infernales I’ve done a primer so you’re free to go there, Segunda Caída did a Complete & Accurate so definately check that out if you’re interested, their match against Los Brazos is considered one of the best matches of 1991, it isn’t even the best trios match of the year but 1991 was a special year for trios all around the world I’m sure you’re aware of the Super Generation Army vs Tsuruta-gun trio, in my opinion the greatest trios match in the history of wrestling, Pirata Morgan also had success as a singles wrestler, he had a fascinating title match against Brazo de Oro, the match we have today is as good as any Pirata Morgan match there is, the bloody brawling, his heel attitude, the way he lost this match and hair it’s all worthy of an aniversario main event, this is all I want in a lucha brawl, it isn’t as good as Sangre Chicana vs Perro Aguayo but it’s still one of the greatest brawls in lucha history.

Yet another classic apuestas match from the 80s. May not be the best but the bar is set so high for this with stuff like Chicana/Aguayo and Chicana/MS-1 that this being below those 2 is far from an insult. An incredible bloody brawl between 2 amazing wrestlers during maybe their peaks.
