The "Which Classic Matches Do You Not Get?" thread got me thinking about the inverse: what are some matches you're considering that most might not hold that highly or even like?
For me, it's the Misawa-Hansen 7/27/1990 match and the Champion Carnival '93 finals. The recurring criticism of the Hansen-Misawa series seems to be that they're both such high level asskickers, it's tough to get invested or see any drama build. I totally get those criticisms and neither guy comes close to the other's best opponent, but I love these matches. The 1990 match to me is just so unique from what we've seen of Misawa (which makes sense as he wasn't the ace yet) because he decides to jump Stan from the get go and tries to beat him at his own game. Misawa is absolutely brutal with the damage he does to the arm, not just with submissions but with any object he can get his hand on. And while the finish may seem flat with Stan still getting the win, it works in a sense that Stan is a wounded, ableit still dangerous animal and Misawa was not quite the "best" just yet.
The '93 Champion Carnival between these two isn't quite as good as the '90 match, but is very similar with Misawa targeting the arm and Hansen the still vulnerable yet dangerous animal. I don't think the finish works QUITE as well here as it did in 1990 because Misawa was already the ace at this point, but I still like the idea that Hansen can still pull the lariat out at a moment's notice no matter how hurt he is. Really sells the move as unstoppable.

Interesting topic.
Taue vs. Hansen from CC94. The PWO reviews were positive but no one was really blown away by it except me. It was considered more a great Hansen performance than a great match. Same deal for Akira Hokuto vs. Kaoru from GAEA 4/12/97.

man... I wanted so much to enjoy that Hansen/Misawa match (among their others) and I just never could get invested. I should try again sometime.
One match that pops to mind for me here is James Gibson vs Bryan Danielson for the ROH Title. I think people dug it, but I think its really high level stuff. I have probably mentioned this elsewhere, but I watched this after I was watching a good bit of 70s NWA matches and I felt it helped me appreciate what they were doing a bit more for some reason. It is a really good, tight, and competitive match that just does wrestling well and does a great job crowning Dragon. NOt sure it makes my list, but I love it and could sneak onto the back end.

It's funny that on re-watches the Hansen-Misawa matches aren't QUITE as fantastic as I remember them, they're still great and might sneak their way on my list.

I'm a lot higher on the post-1995 Misawa/Kawada matches than most. Last I watched them, I thought there was only a marginal drop off in quality in their 1997-1999 series compared to their 1992-1995 series, and all their Triple Crown matches have a good shot at my list.

Other people like it, but I am higher than just about anyone I know on the Kandori/Bull chain match. That is an all timer to me. I know some people don't like the crowd brawling and some other parts of it, but I never find much fault in any of it when I watch (and I have watched it a few times over). I absolutely love it. Its probably my second or third favorite women's match ever and will rank real high for me.
