I've gotten out of the habit of documenting my rewatching. There are so many joshi threads and things going on right now and I've been kinda swamped with other stuff lately so I drop in here and it is hard to keep up with what all we have. In short. I see so much but I am a bit lost on where to latch onto things Would anyone mind giving me a few Joshi recs from the new flood of things we got? I'd like to maybe start to dig into some of that this weekend if I have time, but not sure where to start. I'd love to just take my time and work through it all. that just isn't going to happen right now. I got that Dump vs Yamazaki match Elliott has been pimping on my list. Any other recs for must see stuff that we have access too right now? Dump vs Yamazaki should be your top priority. After that: Jungle Jack vs Toytoa & Moreno 4/91 Satomura vs Kairi Hojo 6/15 Those are probably the 3 strongest contenders for Joshi we've discussed recently.

Best to start with just 3. This will be less than 90minutes. But each one is phenomenal and really different.

Yeah. I just needed a few. I do want to just cruise around all the stuff Alex has given us too. Plus, I have lots of other stuff to watch and not enough time for it all.

My next list is gonna be all Terry Funk, Jerry Lawler and Joshi. I'm doing a running list as I watch stuff - only including stuff I've seen since I started the list a couple of weeks ago - and at the moment 6 of my top 10 are joshi, which is blowing my mind. (And Sasha vs Bayley Iron Woman 11th, so only 4 in the top 11 with guys involved.)

I had 7 Joshi matches in my top 20 last time around. Dump vs Yamazaki will get me to 8 at least for next time.

Birthday Weekend Watching
Every year on or around my birthday I fire up some comfort food matches. I got a chance this past weekend to do just that so I figured I’d jot some thoughts down as many of the matches were closely related to the project. In turn, some of these are matches I have talked about before (endlessly in some cases), but here we go all the same.
Daniel Bryan vs HHH (WWE – 4/6/2014) Current Rank: 75 Trending: Even
This match fell off my list in 2020 but is back on it for 2021. I think for the longest time I was self conscious that only had it on there because it was one of my favorite matches and I got to see it live. Now I just don’t care. What a wonderful dynamic. It is more patient than I remember it being, but never hits that dreaded HHH “we are going long” pace. This is probably as high as I could ever justify having it, but that is where it sits right now. It may get jumped by a few matches, but it wont fall back off the list. Top notch stuff here from the GOAT and the Game.
Black Terry vs Wotan (Chilanga Mask – 8/21/2016) Current Rank: 48 Trending: Down
In 2019 I was the only person who voted for this match. In 2020 it got another vote, but I was the highest on it. It is going to dip just a touch for me this time around, but probably wont fall off the list. It is such a weird display of violence and machismo. I found a few little moments a little too contrived this time around, but would quickly get swept back up in their malice. I will probably need to revisit it one more time in the home stretch. It might have been my mood, but this slipped pretty far down the list for me. I expect it to wind up somewhere in the last 25 or so. Still a top-shelf finish though.
Walter vs Fenix (WXW – 3/9/2019) Current Rank: Not Ranked Trending: Up
I don’t know if this match ever makes the list, but it is closer than I thought before this weekend. What a wonderful bit of business this is. The nuts and bolts of this are “very good” but not other wordly. It is as good as you would expect from these two in 2019, which is pretty damn good. However, the magic comes in the drama around Fenix’s mask. He loses it more than once and a fan throws their replica mask in for him. What a moment. Walter is in the midst of his turn to more heelish tactics. Some of that was hit or miss for me, but this was very much a hit. He is such a bully and an ass hole, but loses none of his teeth. I highly recommend this if you haven’t checked it out.
Bret Hart vs Roddy Piper (IC Title – WWF – 4/5/1992) Current Rank: Not Ranked Trending: Up
Ok… I can admit when I am wrong. I discussed this match at some length with Elliott and Urbancowboy was recently pimping it as well. I have been saying forever that I would rewatch it… so I finally did. It is much much better than I remember. I think it might be a taste thing. I’m becoming much more drawn to chaos and grit and this match captures that beautifully. In my brain, this match looked different so I think I was really watching it with different eyes. They strike a lovely balance of their styles and what they bring to the match. Does this make my list? Probably not. However, it is a lot closer than I ever imagined.
Bull Nakano and Condor Saito vs The Crush Gals (Best Tag League Final – AJW – 10/11/1987) Current Rank: 60-something Trending: Down
I wish I had noted where this was before I took it off my list, but I felt pretty confident that I jumped the gun on adding it when I first watched this, so I just took it off all together. That isn’t taking anything away from the match. It is still awesome, but just not top 100 matches of all time awesome. More like maybe top 250 or 300 matches. This is why I like to watch things more than once. I can get really swept up in the moment and my headspace when I watch a match. This is clearly great pro wrestling, but the first time I watched it I was way higher than this time. It feels like even if my take is really somewhere in the middle, it still misses my list.
Kenta Kobashi vs Yoshihiro Takayama (Triple Crown Title – AJPW – 5/26/2000) Current Rank: 60 Trending: Even/Down-ish
I added both big Kobashi v Takayama matches in the 11th hour last time, this being my favorite of the two. Nothing changes drastically with this watch. I love this. I love how hot they start. I love that it levels out as the bombs they throw start to take effect. I love the brand of violence Takayama makes Kobashi overcome. This could conceivably drop 10-15 spots, but it wont fall far if at all.
Sangre Chicana vs MS-1 (Hair vs Hair – EMLL – 9/23/1983) Current Rank: 2 Trending: Even
Except for matches I was at live, I really only remember distinctly where I was when I watched 2 matches. I mean I know where I was for plenty of matches, but to have the whole setting etched into my brain, there are only two, my top 2 matches. I was in Canada at my wife’s parents’ house. It was a very stressful and sad time for us all and I was taking a little personal time to recharge. I had just got the lucha set and had been kinda holding this one off for the right time. I’m glad I did. It is the kind of match that grabs you by the throat and pulls you in. I love this match every time I watch it and this was no different. It is one of only a few matches that I think have a real chance at #1.

Thanks. It was solid. Wrestling was just a small part of it all... but a necessary small part. haha.
