Terry & Dory Funk Jr vs Abdullah the Butcher & The Sheik (Real World Tag League Finals - AJPW - 12/13/79) The final match-up of one of the greatest rivalries in wrestling history. I love these matches more than just about anything in wrestling. The Funks getting manhandled and stabbed by these two monsters but never backing down and punching motherfuckers right in the face. If you love brawling, blood, awesome selling & character work and totally insane crowds, these matches are for you. Lock for my top half.

I don't want to echo elliot too much, so I'll just say, while the summer edition is in contention for the number 1 spot, this one will have to settle for being a lock for the list. Most likely top 50 after rewatch.

Third. Greatest feud of all time. I'd have all four of these matches in my top 100. This is probably my 3rd favorite of the bunch.

This for me is the second best match of the series (after the 1977 match). I loved the return to Abby working over Terry with a fork, this time going after the hand as well. Terry was a great face-in-peril with Dory doing a great hot tag. The finish with Abby mistakenly hitting Sheik who got pinned is great, with Sheik turning on Abby and throwing a fireball.

A full bloody brawl, the kind of stuff this rivalry is known for. Good match but I don't see it landing on my list.

The finale! This crowd starts out even hotter than the July match! Incredible entrance with Terry being absolutely mobbed by the fans. Also seems to have more women fans than previous matches as a chorus of high-pitched shrieks accompany the Sheik and Abdullah working over the Funks with forks. The July match was relatively light on fork, but they bring it back with a vengeance here. Abdullah starts off the match by tossing out the announcer, and early on Terry anticipates 6/9/95 by taking a cheap shot at Abdullah on the apron while facing off with the Sheik in the ring! Great brawling, bleeding, and selling from all involved especially Terry, as usual. I think, for me, this is the least of their matches because it in a sense loses steam towards the end -- not that it's ever not incredible, but it's the first of these matches where I felt it "dropped off" at one point, even though it dropped off to just a lower level of greatness from a higher level of greatness. Great to have a real ending and then Sheik turning on Abdullah. Again, I could totally see ranking these matches in any order at all.
For me, though, I'm going 77 > 78 > July 79 > December 79.
