Mitsuharu Misawa and Jun Akiyama vs. Akira Taue and Toshiaki Kawada (AJPW - 12/5/1997)
Not nearly as dramatic as their encounters in 1996, but this is still a fantastic tag match. Jun and Misawa gel very well together with each man taking turns being the face in peril and the hot tag. There also seemed to be more of a focus on Jun being right at home competing with the other pillars whereas the prior year he was still proving himself. The more competitive and sporting nature of this match doesn't make it quite as memorable as the classics, but still an excellent and occasionally violent display of AJPW tag team wrestling.

Seconded. Yeah, this is fantastic. Maybe unfairly overlooked by virtue of being the follow-up to 12/6/96 but still an all-time classic only a tier below their match from the year before. Kawada/Taue are so great controlling the match and there's plenty of drama down the stretch. Great crowd as well.

What I hate about this match is the ending. Like, Misawa, DO SOMETHING TO SAVE YOUR PARTNER!! Don't let the opponents win like that, not in the RWTL Finals!

Yeah rewatched this some weeks back after ignoring it for years and boy does it hold up well. As mentioned it doesn't have the same level of peaks in drama as the 96 final but it still bangs and is rock solid throughout. More tremendous Kawada/Akiyama exchanges. A worthy RWTL final. ****1/2

Way too over the top for my tastes.
