Easily one of my top 3 straight tag matches in WWE history and a lock for my ballot. The back story was that this was the finals of a tournament to crown the first ever Smackdown rah team champions and Angle & Benoit had to put their feud on hold or they would both be suspended for a year.
The started out hot and heavy as you may expect before settling into Edge as the FIP. Angle and Benoit are such perfect dick heels and bullying Edge before the hot tag. Edge and Mysterio offense was actually pretty cool as they used Rey’s size to their advantage with their double teams. I actually bit on some of the false finishes before we hit the second stretch of the match with Rey as FIP. Edge hitting the drop kick leading to a Rey pin fall attempt or Angle suplexing Rey across the ring from the top both made me bite. The finishing stretch was even hotter and included desperation duplexes (a guilty pleasure of mine) and Rey with the spot of the night by breaking up the cross face with a 619!
The apron work by the non-legal men was absolutely superb in this match, with the little call backs being equally awesome. Angle sneaking a knee to Edge’s back only to get speared the next time he tried it and Edge almost squeaking out the victory with a roll up (which led to Angle’s head shaving) were just two such examples. Absolutely amazing match from four guys at the top of their game.

One of my favourite matches ever and one I should definitely reconsider. I used to have it at full 5* and while I think that might change, it's not gonna drop too much I would say. I remember fantastic pacing, dynamic and explosive offense, great selling and heart stopping nearfalls. Four of the best wrestlers in the world at that moment.

I hadn't seen this in years but remember loving it. Watching it now I thought it was pretty evident just from this match that Edge isn't on the level of the other 3 guys. But he doesn't drag things down too much as it's still lots of fun, just at its best whenever Rey is in the ring.

Yeah, just as fun as I remembered. The pacing isn't as good, didn't buy that Edge in peril segment that much, but after the Rey hot tag this becomes a classic match with tremendous action and, yeah, top tier level nearfalls. My favourite one is after Edge dodges a Benoit headbutt attempt while he was pinning Angle, it not only was a super clever spot but also Angle kicked out at 2'999999, and god knows I LOVE those kind if kickouts. Speaking of Angle, he was clearly the MVP of the match and his performance here must be remembered as one of his best ever. He's just so fun to watch: since the very beginning when toying with Rey, then freaking out after Rey trolls him back, through all of his amazing spots and excellent short term selling, he gave it all. There also were some little bizarre spots where some of them didn't looked to be well positioned or whatever (it's hard to describe any of them in particular, but if you've seen the match you'll get what I mean), but overall this is a really great match and definitely a top 100 contender. I'm sure if this exact match happened between four random joshi wrestlers at the 90s this would be an instant lock for almost anybody (I know a lot of people don't watch it because Benoit is in it, and don't get me wrong, I respect that; just trying to say the match is underrated).

I had already stopped watching by this time but when I had gone back and watched recommended matches after the network started this was one of the first shows I checked out. This match along w/ the other highly regarded match of the show are both great fun that I’d probably revisit in the future but I have such a disconnect to the era as a whole I don’t know if I can ever fully appreciate it. It’s not nearly on the level of the Jericho/Benoit v. 2MPT in terms of logical investment but anytime a tag match can get the crowd genuinely wild. I’m into it while I’m watching it at least.
