Bryan is coming into this match w/ a bum knee, and while it's not the target of Nigel's initial attack, it sure becomes it very quickly. They start the match off w/ their usual competitive, technical wrestling, and as Bryan wins those exchanges, Nigel gets frustrated & starts going after the knee. I thought that was some great, subtle character work by Nigel; it's like he doesn't want to go after the easy target in the knee, but he has no other choice since Danielson keeps on beating him in the non-knee related, competitive, technical exchanges. He does great work over the knee throughout, Danielson's selling is great too & the interference deals by Claudio & Sugarfoot are done very well. Bryan's last comeback w/ those fiery slaps & the elbow is one of my all-time favorites; he showed such perfect amount of fire & soul in that one. It's a yet another classic between my favorite pairing in wrestling history.

Seconded. My favourite of the Bryan/McGuinness series and the best match in ROH history. The technical exchanges at the start are great as always but it doesn't take long for Nigel to target Bryan's knee, which he goes to town on. Anytime Bryan changes the match to a striking contest or technical contest, Nigel can't seem to keep up so he goes right back to the knee. Thought the interferences were done well and lead to a very good count-out tease. Bryan's final comeback was utterly fantastic, full of fire and intensity. My only complaint about this match really is that I thought Bryans knee selling was iffy, which is very strange for someone who's usually so on the ball with selling. Either way, this would make my top 30 at the very least.

I rewatched their entire feud about a year ago and wish I had given a little more thought to this one and to their match from Japan, which on this past rewatch stood out to me as their second best behind unified. However, I had this neck and neck with that in terms of rating.

This was an interesting match. Too long for me but good for the story it told with Nigel attacking the knee as his only out as Danielson beats him in any other way. The set up with Bryan's knee getting torqued in the ropes was cool and Nigel pulled out a lot of cool looking submissions to make the injury, caused by Claudio Castagnoli the night before. But Nigel also did a lot of cutey striking that doesn't really work for me, such as the run up the rope set up for the running elbow and his lariat setups which were awful, although the actual connection is sweet. Bryan's selling wasn't great honestly, but his last hope spot was good for a closing stretch. Cool match, but not great. ***1/2

This might be the greatest match I ever saw live. It was also the only one I hadn’t watched on tape and I guess I wasn’t aware that it was held in as high regard as their earlier Ones. As big a fan of Danielson as I am, and as important as this rivalry was in my fandom at this stage of my life when it happened that these matches haven’t aged as well as I hoped. Each match has something that kinda holds me back a bit. I’m definitely voting for Unified but I might throw this one in somewhere in the 90s just because of that live, nostalgia bump but it’s definitely not a lock.
