Shinobu Kandori vs Devil Masami (JWP - 7/14/1988) This is one of the best matches of the 80s. People talked about Jaguar, The Crush Girls & Jumping Bomb Angels in the early-mid 80s being a decade ahead of their time. This feels about right because this at times feels like the greatest Late 90s All Japan main event ever complete with a goddamn Ganso Bomb and everything. But there's also a shit ton of blood to go along with the brawling. These two are amazing wrestlers and this match really stands up well against anything you'll ever see.

Second!
I am so glad Eliot felt strongly enough to nominate this one. I would have eventually. It is one of my favorite matches of the 80s (women or men). It is really physical and tells a compelling story about a young bad ass trying to best a vet bad ass. The home stretch is bonkers good. This will probably make comfortably for me.

3rd. Not the best JWP match I've seen but it's well worth exploring. Blood, grit, struggle, awesome Masami performance. Full review from PWO:
The original JWP is painfully underexplored. This is probably it's most prolific match, and it's more interesting than a great match. You may theorize that this is Kandori, the dangerous shooter putting the pro wrestler under fire and setting the blueprints for Kandori/Hokuto... which is a good formula, but in reality it was Devil dragging a green Kandori by the nose through a long match. Kandori looks good on the mat, and not very good doing anything else. Devil is as mean as you can want a hardened veteran to be carrying this and brings the goods, downing Kandori with a huge punch, almost ripping her in half with a surfboard, dishing out clubbing blows to make up for Kandori's weak kicks and so on. The biggest problem with the match is that it's needlessly long, as the iconic moment - where they both start bleeding all over the ring - only comes about 30 minutes into the match, and before that, there's a lot of meandering. It felt a bit like Devil redoing the Chigusa match against a far lesser Chigusa with nice submissions. The actual bloodbath was kind of underwhelming too, honestly. There's always charm to watching a rookie and a veteran going along for a lengthy match and this had enough good moments and nearfalls to keep you satisfied, but I gotta say this wasn't as good as I've seen it hyped up. Also, I'll never understand what was up with that restart/overtime they did.

Captivating match. There is blood at the end. There is a struggle throughout the match. ***1/2

Even as an up and comer Kandori bring legitimacy to everything she does. On top of the bombs they both had some serious steam behind their strikes and lariats. I was confused by the restart, but the bloodbath gets pretty legit to me. Glad I got to watch this, great match and some serious drama at the finish.

My biggest problem with this match is that I didn't felt any urgency most of the times. They were working really slowly, I guess because they needed to fill time, but it's not like they worked a slow, carefully crafted match. They just wrestled a regular match but very slowly. Kandori looked green, you can see she has the talent and will eventually become great (as she did), but here in this match she never looked on pair with Devil. There are a lot of interesting moments here and there throughout the whole match, so you're never bored, but there's also the feeling of no progression at all. They even repeat some spots later on, it looked like they ran out of ideas or something. The ref was also really bad and took away most of the drama away from some pinfalls. The finishing sequence with all the blood was pretty good, but sadly only lasted like a minute or so. C'mon you had half an hour to do anything and you only give me the bloodjob at the last freaking minute?
Very dissapointing. It's still good, specially thanks to Masami as Kandori wasn't at her peak yet, but it's nowhere near as good as I expected from these two and considering the high praise it has around here, PWO or whatever. But now that a rematch has appeared on youtube, let's see if they can improve upon this one, I still trust them.
