One of my personal favorite matches. Great storytelling with Okada as the dominant ace and Ishii as the bruiser who forces Okada out of his comfort zone. I love the start where Okada tries his typical slow-paced beginning of matches with the feeling out period but Ishii bum-rushes him and forces him to fight at Ishii’s pace. This match doesn’t have the typical tropes of many modern NJPW matches. It was the perfect length and was perfectly paced. Every minute in this match mattered. The crowd was blazing hot. The finishing sequence was out of this world as Okada just attempted to survive Ishii’s onslaught. Ishii’s sitout tombstone on Okada is still one of the memorable spots in a match in recent memory for me. The pop when Ishii won was deafening. I’m giving this match extra points because they really worked a unique match outside of the typical NJPW style and they really nailed it. It will be in the lower half of my list but I feel that it has to be nominated. It’s really an amazing match.

Seconded. Ishii forces Okada to wrestle his type of match and it's clear from the start that Okada is outmatched and out of his comfort zone. Loved the fact that Ishii had Okada scouted at every turn and Okada did not have an answer for anything Ishii threw at him. Strong chance of making my list.

Kazuchika Okada vs. Tomohiro Ishii (NJPW G1 Climax - 8/6/16)
Not sure what happened to the thread for this one, but it did pass the nomination process.
An excellent match told in three stages: 1) Ishii blitzes Okada and nearly finishes him in the opening minutes. 2) Okada is able to weather the storm and get back into his groove, forcing Ishii to wrestle his game. 3) Ishii manages another blitz against Okada and drags him into wrestling his game. An excellent war with tons of urgency and lots of smart psychology between two stablemates who know each other very well.

Not a fan of these two. Not a fan of this match.
