Only available on handheld so the quality isn't that great, but it doesn't look far behind their other more famous matches. Same great striker/grappler dynamic in play as usual. All kinds of great Fujiwara submissions, and I also love the spot with him landing body punches on Tiger in the corner. Really good struggle over the match-ending submission as well.

I am going to direct nominate this. I saw it last night for the first time and I don't think it is far behind the famous 12/84 match at all honestly. It is a bit different. I think they move with a little more urgency through much of this match. Super Tiger's striking flurries are phenomenal. His working of Fujiwara's leg also has some extra punch later in the match when he is just throwing his entire body at Fujiwara's leg. Fujiwara for his part is relentless in going after the kimura and just about any arm lock he can transition to. I loved his body shots in the corner as well. They sort of slowed it a bit as they went to struggle towards that ending submission and I can see that setting this match back for some, but not me really. This match doesn't have quite the weight of their 12/84 match and the video quality is obviously not as good, but it makes up for that with top shelf dynamic pacing and unreal urgency through most of this. I can see this making my list next year.
Edit: I fixed the date where I originally referenced an "86 match". I meant the 12/84 match.

I know you meant 12/84 as their famous match. Just wanted to clear that up for anyone since you said 86 twice. One of the all time great rivalries. I won't just say Sayama vs Fujiwara is better than Sayama vs Dynamite Kid. I'll go so far to say Super Tiger is my favorite FUjiwara opponent.

I think that is fair, who would be some other candidates? Maeda obviously, but Fujiwara had a lot of one off awesome matches rather then a lot of rivalries.

I feel like most folks would say Takada based on the strength of the two matches from 1990. People love that 10/90 Takada match.

Last time I watched their matches, I was thinking about how the managed to improve this new shoot style thing each match. I don't really like their first match, but loved the famous december match, and I remember the 11/9/85 match as their best one. And now I discover this one exists!? Hell yeah. I'll check it as soon as I can.

Ohhh yeah... I meant the 84 match. I had the date of something else in my head. Thanks, Elliott.

Unbelievably awesome match. Feels like something that belongs on the top 100.
